Q's for the blow-through guys.
I'm thinking about putting a turbo..well I guess it wouldnt be a turbo ..I want to take the exhaust components off of a turbo and try to use a pulley system to drive it ..problem is where can I find the right pulleys and what would I have to do to my carb .. could I get by with no mods to it? and a good bonnet would be nice...also how much boost would you guys recommend for my setup .(I dont want huge amount of boost ..daily driver) ..oh 3.73 gears going in the car also if that matters..
Any info would be greatly appreciated

what kind of turbo would I need?
I was thinking about the pulleys ..run off the crank to a second dual pulley to the charger ...at this ratio 1 turn of crank = 2 turns of second pully the 2 turns of the second pulley = 6 turns at the charger ..if the way I added was right the would give me 96,000 rpm at the charger right?
what cars would I find the right size turbo on? .. I have a shadow sitting in my back yard with one .. and a chrysler..dont remember what model it its though would either of them work?

no you would get 48,000 rpms.
4000*2=8000 *6=48000
the problems with a setup like this is that the gears required for this would not last long. you would need some light oil. plus i dont think gears like to be spinning really fast, and then you shift thus dropping the rpms really fast, this drop may not be much on your engine. but a 2000 rpm drop will equal 24000 rpms at the impeller, now think about the momentum and forces.
it is possible, i have seen a site of a guy doing it, but i don't think it would be worth it after all of the CUSTOM machining you would need.

hmm you have a good point there ..never thought about the rpm drops like that .. I dont have the cash to buy a super charger ...anyone got one that they would like to get rid of for cheap?
I just dont really want all the exhaust under my hood like that ..thats why i'm gunning for a belt driven peice

if you really want to try it, i would look for a turbo off of a semi or something. maybe you can get by with running lower rpms and still getting some sort of boost.
