Q's about blower reliability, maintenance, life expectancy, etc..

I've been looking into superchargers lately, specifically Prochargers, I like their power numbers and intercooling options. I have a few questions about reliability, maintenance, and life expectancy of superchargers. I really like the self-contained units and if I do go with a blower it'll most likely be the P-1SC.

How's the reliability of the blower for a daily driven vehicle? This includes the blower itself, belts, and anything else associated with the blower setup (don't worry about the motor, let's assume it's built for a blown application).

What maintenance should be expected with such a setup? Iknow the SC units need their oil changed about every 6k miles but what else should be expected? How long do the belts tend to last?

Lastly, what's the approximate life expectancy for a blower unit?

Feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well, many units get their oil form the engine, like my Vortech. I believe ATI was only oil before, and i think they make a "sself contained oil" blower now. Anyway, for an entry level "street" or daily driver blower, the is vitually no maintenance/ of course problems can arise, but other than replacing an occasional belt, that's about it. Many units end up needing a rebuild after 30k, some sooner,....some much much later. Anyway, assuming it's a blower motor and it's tuned, you won't have any problems. Many cars come from the factory w/ tiny superchargers, like the GTP, Harley Davidson truck,.. and soforth. The problems usually occur because of the motor being out of tune, lean, or someother error that occcured becaue the owner just "slapped a blower on". If you are thourough w/ the install/tune etc, and check to see it's running right,.... you won't have a problem. naturally, they do stress the motor more than a N/A motor so engine life could be decreased by 30-50%....good luck
oh BTW, i hear the intercooler w/ the procharger works real well, and should increase reliability/

depends on how you use them.. I've seen those M112's run 18psi with some pulley swaps.

Thats big in my books
