Help with N.O.S
Help with N.O.S
I have a 85 trans am with 305 tpi and a hypertech chip and a 160 thermo , and kn filter .Will i be able to run nos with the hypertech chip or do i have to change it. I run 93 octane all the time.I read that you cant use nos with chips that change timing cause detonation will occur. Will i have to change the chip or am i safe just going ahead and getting it and doing nothing. I dont want the nos if i have to change the chip.I need help for someone with exp with nos.By the way i wanna run a 100 shot .

You could always get an ignition retard box that retards the timing when the nitrous is on, then you can run your chip for max power when the nitrous is off and have the timing automatically retard when you arm the nitrous.

Take the chip out.
Have you ever had the car scanned? You could have knock just running around town. Do you really want to take the chance w/ a 100 hp and 200 # of tq? If the scanner looks good, no knock, then you MIGHT be ok. But hey, its not my motor.
I say pull the chip, back the timing off by 2* change the plugs and have a blast. You might give up a tenth in the 1/4, but you'll gain a second w/ the juice.

thanks guys , i dont have the stock chip . I really wanna get the nos so im still gonna have to think about it. If i do change the chip do i have to change the thermostat.its 160 now.
Ive always wondered about timing and nitrous. Say you dial in your timing on an engine off the nitrous and you have it set to where it makes most power and wont detonate. Lets say hypothetically you achieve that at 8 degrees advanced. Do you then retard the timing with a retard box from there or do you have to set the timing back to 0 and further retard the timing with the box? Is it safe to set your timing where you make max power on the engine NA and then just retard it a couple degrees for the nitrous?
