is this a good or bad idea???

below is a pic of my cars hood (not my car though) so u can get and idea what i mean the red would be what i cut out.
anyway my hood is fiber glass so its really easy for me to cut a hole in. i was thinking in those to spots cut it out and cover it with mesh, sort of a ram air effect and since i got an open element air filter it would be better. the only thing that i figure would be bad would be rain or when i wash the car. what do u guys think???
also it would look kool.

i thought about it, but since i still have a air cleaner (stock, going to find a HO one soon) it would just be cosmetic. But i wouldnt do it like a import mesh, i was thinking of getting a nice chrome frame and either doing like a custom grill with straight chrome or honey comb, either way i wouldnt mind getting a set of stock replacements either. cant find those any where.

rain is the enemy! infact a friend of mine who had a ram air hood on his LS1 trans am made small scoop blockers to keep rain out, had them custom fitted and everything. His dad worked with the stuff so he did all the work, had like 3 sets, clear, smoke and black. used velcro patchs to attach them on and everything. But i wouldnt do it my self. dont want water getting into that carb of yours and doing some real damage.
