If its over 160,000 miles on the original 305, i would be happy that it still runs. I would look into getting a budget crate 350 (which would probably be as fast as your 305 with how much boost you could safely run on a 160,000 mile motor) and put some boost on that.

Maybe I'm baised but I say go for it, but be ready for a new engine. It all comes down to whether you can do the work if it comes down to it. I'm running close to 10lbs boost on a stock 305 with about 135000 on the odometer. It comes down to how much you trust your engine. I had no issues and perfect compression before the blower. I also have a spare engine just sitting around in case the worst happens. Small block chevy's are a dime a dozen around here, and I don't consider an engine swap to be a big project, especially after what I went through fabbing up the blower setup.

I have no hard numbers but I will say the differance between boost and no boost is dramatic, I just keep wanting more now =) I am addicted to boost.
