holley 142/177 w/ a serpentine setup?
will a long nose 142 or 177 roots blower work w/ a 92 serpentine setup? the only blower ive seen for a serpentine setup was emissions legal for a truck and cost almost as much as a centrifugal.
Just went out and did some measurements for you. I compared my standard "long nose" 142 with v-belts (78 Malibu) to the serpentine setup on a 92 Camaro RS V8. It won't clear. The blower belt will be sitting about 1/4" too far in. It's going to interfere with the water pump pulley, it's serpentine belt and the bottom pulley for the blower will also be trying to "occupy the same space" as the bottom crank pulley/belt by the same amount.
HOWEVER......... Holley/Weiand makes a version of the 142 that is designted for a special 1986-only F-body application. So what you say? Well, putting the 1986 part aside, it's basically at it's core a "SUPER long nose" version of the same blower. The snout sticks out about 1" further, with a corresponding bottom pulley. Which would leave you about 3/4" of clearance in front of the serpentine setup. It's not BUILT for your application specifically but it should fit.
Also, where the blower snout sticks forward off the intake doesn't look like it would interfere with the stock serpentine belt. It WILL definitely want to occupy the same space as the top radiator hose (passing just to the pass. side of the alternator) so you'll probably have to reroute that.
I'd call Holley and ask them before you lay down your money, though. This can't be the first time they have been asked this question.
