altinator?

this might be a really stupid question but i just wanna know. tonight my altinator belt broke (again) but for some reasion it feels more smoother and fast to me. since your engine has to turn the altinator from the belt does it slow it down at all have to turn the alt??

altinator.... you mean alternator? IS that what they call it in canada?

And yes, your alternator does rob power, just like any accessories your belt drives. Not much though.. When calculated it is only about 2.5HP, but for some odd reason at the track and a dyno it has been proven for a good 8-15HP. Go figure.

I saw a car at a track once which had a micro switch installed on the TB, that when the car went WOT, it tripped a relay that disconnected the alternator from the system, making it a pulley basically for as long as the car was WOT. Kind of like a Nitrous system is hooked up to the TB sometimes.

The owner said it gave him persistant .10 sec better ET's..

Something I'll have to look into..
