im putting a one wire altinator on my car and have a question. i know that the charge wire goes to the battery but what about the original factory style plug. what do i have to do to hook that up. also im moving my battery to the trunk and i want to but a shut down switch on it. were have you guys put the switch. i cant really think of a good place to install it. also do i have to do anything special to wire the switch. thanks for any help.

 

The one wire alternators use rpm to start charging the system. The factory style plug can be removed or taped and hiddden away.

a one wire alternator just uses the wire from the battery connected to the post on the rear of the alternator. when you start the car you rev the engine slightly to get it to start charging. no other connectors are needed.

do i have to run a diode in the new altinator wire that runs to the battery for an msd box, of will it be ok with out one. also will the factory volt gauge still work. thanks alot for all the help.

 

a diode is not necessary. This is just as easy as it sounds. Hook up the battery wire on the back and that is it. The unit is internally protected so a diode isn't needed. You can do whatever you want with the factory style plug. Yes, the volt gauge uses an ignition wire to sense the voltage, no the alternator itself.
