Power problems
i had a altinator problem with my camaro it look old anyways so i went ahead and replaced it and along the battery too just in case
the problem was that the battery was not charging back up and when i disconected the battery from the car while it was on the car would just cut out
so now that my altinator and battery is changed in the car something weird is going on
right now i know the altinator belt isnt on tight enough because when it kicks in it sqeals but when it does the voltage gauge jumps to 18volts been like this for a few days i would start it up
i havnt heard the belt sqeal for a day or two now and my voltage is at 9-8 volts and i may have to jump it because it did not start just now so is my altinator working anymore? should i try to tighten the belt? could that be the problem

I wouldn't take the dash voltmeter reading as gospel, get a proper reading with a digital meter across the battery terminals.
If the belt stopped squealing by itself, it may have gotten a shiny surface from slipping too much previously...check your belt tension before you tighten it, it should give no more than about 3/4 inch in the middle. You'll have a hard time over-tightening it unless you're trying to.
