144 short with stock serpentine set up pic
this is my 89 rs with a 305 . i used ashort snout for use with the short pump and spaced the s/c and tensioner pulley out 1/8th f an inch i then used under drive pulleys due to the fact that the ubderdrive crank pulley is roughly the same size as the s/c pulley, ive been using this for 2.5 years now without a problem

hmmm
he probly doesnt have a problem right now, since hes been running it for awhile, but IMO i would run a idler pully between the blower and alt so that theres more wrap around the blower......

YEA I DO AGREE ABOUT THE IDLER, AND I CONTIMPLATED USING ONE BUT THERES REALY NOTHING TO MOUNT IT TO, AND AS YOU SEE ROOM IS AN ISUE, AFTER I GOT IT TOGETHER AND REALIZED IT DIDNT SLIP,I DIDNT WORY ABOUT IT, ITS HAD THE SAME BELT FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND 7500 MILES. OH BY THE WAY IM NOT YELLING I JUST LEFT MY CAPS LOCK ON BY MISTAKE....

hehehe i was gonna say.....
its reassuring to hear it doesnt slip with the belt like that.... currently thats my big fear with the M112 im putting on my car...
i wanted to do somthing like i have below, but im cutting it so close on room, i donno if im going to do it or not....
i just dont want it to slip excessively or throw the belt.
You already HAVE an idler pulley. It's just not in a very convenient place. Maybe there's a way you could rotate the whole "guts" out on the front of the snout. I thought about just unbolting the snout from the blower case and rotating the whole thing but then it won't clear the thermostat housing. This might be easier than a whole separate idler pulley.

we're talking about adding another point, so that the amount of belt surface the blowers pully increases...
if you look at the ford lightning motor i posted, you'll see that they take this to the extreme and use two idler pullys in such a way that they get the most wrap around the blower pulley as they can.
all belts slip a little.. that one of the reasons they wear out... but if you can reduce that amount, the belts last longer, and with more area around the pully, theres usually less of a chance of tossing it too.
but he says he has 7500 miles on it without a problem, so in this case, its a non issue......

yep, only running 6 psi of boost, and your right, change the pulley ratio to make more boost and it might have more of a chance to slip, like i said, i did reserch on putting a stationary idler but i just never needed it,i even thought about flipping the tensioner but too much hassle, remember this is a stock 62000 mile bottom end ! dont want to get too nuts with this power plant, when it does start to knock and or leak (coolant or oil
) i will probrably build a mild 350 with a stout bottom end and forged pistons . i believe the tbi 305 has 9.3 to 1 compression so 6 psi is enough, on pump gas (93) i am running only 30 * of total timing, which is great but like i said thats only with 6 psi......now im going to have to pull my tranny in the next few months due to the tipical 3rd gear clutches going bad ( 2nd to 3rd shift flare up ) ......not bad for a 700 r4 to go 62000 miles ! and just now starting to fail, when i worked for gm we were replacing these trannys at about 19000 miles.!! im gonna shut up now i just keep ramblin on

13.89 at 98 mph, i ran it last in 2002 its not completely stock i am running it through the edelbrock tpi headers with a 3 in hooker cat back, comp cams 214/224 443/465 b&m trans pack with 2500 stall converter. the supercharger definatley woke it up. originaly i had this set up without the s/c running an edelbrock tbi performer and a holley throttle body, ran better but still was piggy.....went carb with a performer, better at high rpm but lost some bottom end feel , then s/c ...big difference that time was 7 months after i first installed it, that was with the stock 2.73 open rear, i ve been busy the past year building my 76 vega coupe with a aluminum headed 357, so most of my time/money has been going to that project. so i havent ran it with the 3.73 and so/so gov loc..... this summer though.......

yea thats with the stock heads, problem is is that aftermarket heads on a 305 are not that great, ive seen the 305 tourqer s/r good head but for what this car is, i wouldnt spend the money, due to the small bore of the 305 most aftermarket heads will not work unless you notch the cylinders....not on all but on some, then you run into the large chambers that are for the larger bore 350 which could put compression down to 7.1 not a bad thing but not what i would want with a low pressure s/c like i am running....i cant wait to see what my times will be like this spring with the 3.73 and posi, the last time at the track proved to be a smokey experience
