Nitrous and my current cam, will it be ok?
I currently havethe setup that is listed in my sig... however, the xr288 cam i have is a 110lsa cam... how is this going to get along with some nitrous? i'd like to toss a 150 shot on it, but am i going to run into issues with this cam?
what sorts of losses or gains might i expect? and which kit does everyone recommend for a holley 4barrel/victor jr intake setup...
here's a link to the cams complete info-

It's not going to cause you problems.
A cam ground on 114 LSA *may* work a little better but....
Cutting hairs. 150hp is not a big shot. the difference between a NOS friendly cam and a not so NOS friendly cam is going to be very small on this motor..
Your biggest issue is going to be traction.
The cam may respond some to being advanced in the motor.
from say 106 intake C/L ( cam card) to 102.
This would make it act more like a "nitrous cam" ( earlier exhaust opening, earlier closing)
Something to try..... the motor may like this change while N/A too. Won't know till you try it.
if the motor responds ,, great , create a theory for it.

if anything this cam may offer you some protections. As far as how good the car will work, consider this.
The JYD 2.0 had a circle track cam with 106 lobe and I ran a 150 shot.

cams have overlap. Some cams have more than others. Nitrous creates massive cylinder pressures, cylinder pressure is power, but it can also be destructive. Too much of a good thing. Well in the case of your cam, and a whole bunch in the case of the cam I had, the overlap results in bleeding cylinder pressure off to improve scavenging through the exhaust by sending some gasses down the pipe to help pull the fresh intake charge in. Bleeding off cylinder pressure keeps out of control cylinder pressures from occuring as much. It could help to reduce detonation sensitivity, protect pistons and headgaskets. Not as much in your cam as the one I had in the JYD, but some atleast. Most Comp cams running around on the streets these days have the same 110 lobe sep with 108 intake centerline like yours. Alot of people have nitrous, so it stands to reason lots and lots of guys are running a similarly patterned cam as your with nitrous.

Thanks dude
i kinda figuered it might have to do with overlap and cylinder pressures... wasn't sure though, thanks for clarifying for me.
I'm not planning much for engine mods this year, mostly due to budget and the fact that i woul djust like to get the damn thing looking nice!!! all these years my two firebird have been getting slowloy restored. well, when i got this 91, and got rid of the 86 i put a lot of practice into, i wanted to make this one nice...
the motor might come out so i can paint up the engine bay, and get it cleaned up a bit so it looks nice. A lot of work, but if the car is gonna get painted, its all gonna get done at once!!!
