I'm confuzed

Ok most people say not to add boost to a engine with 10:1 compression, well wouldnt it be better to have a NA engine running 10:1 compression, then adding boost??

It is the dynamic compression that is important. If the dynamic compresson is too high then you need higher octane fuel to stay out of detonation problems.

A big cam will give you lower dynamic compression.

Higher static compression will give you higher dynamic compression.

That is why you use higher static compression on an engine with a big cam.

Boost will also raise the dynamic compression. That is why you need a lower static compression to compensate.

i think hes asking what the point of boosting an engine if you have to lower the compression rather than just running a 10:1 n/a motor.

the reason simply put is airflow. think of it as increasing the displacement of your motor by forcing twice as much air in.

Thanks, that cleared up a lot. How do you figure compression? I know it has to do with the combustion chamber
