fix up an Ironduke

I was looking at my buddies Camaro and his Ironduke were wondering how taboo it would be to put euro type parts on such as a nice exhoust NOT a fart can, a turbo, a hood scoup, a wing and maby a few more things. Thanx for the input.

Man, don't **** out an f-body. WRT to wings and things… if you need them, great, otherwise leave that crap off. For example, Guido's old camaro NEEDED the aluminum wing that it had (probably, if nothing else I would imagine it helped stabilize things at the top end and with the deployment of the 'cute).

With the Iron Duke… go for it. I've always wanted to do it. There are a lot of rather cool and somewhat arcane parts out there, as well as some fairly standard performance parts that will work in them (I know for a fact that SBC 350 pistons will work and possibly rods, so there you have a cheap source of quality pistons…). They actually have a surprising amount of build up potential. I've seen relatively mild, streetable NA examples that are good for about 200hp, and I don't see any reason why you couldn't get a supercharged (turbocharged) one that was built up right into the >300hp range without spending big $$$.

You could end up with a really unique/cool setup… I think it would be pretty wild to be able to blow the doors off of your average 12-16second v8 f-body with half the cylinders under the hood.

It would be cool, without an aluminum wing. If you want a spoiler, go with a 91-92 high rise or something. A 5" 3 piece would look real good too. I say go for it.

Now I think your stretching the word needed, as his car didnt need the wing and that was probrobly the only mod he did that I didnt like.

Now I'm not sure exactly how fast that car would have gone, but know several cars running similar turbos in the mid 8's and know another with twins running 7.85@176 with no wings(or exterior body modifications what so ever).

I had a iron duke in my boat until it blew a head gasket. The boat model uses a v8 bellhousing. It uses 350 pistons and rods.

I went to a 350 in my boat, because I couldn't find another iron duke block with the v8 bellhousing.

Iron duke carbed was 140hp. 350 is 260hp.

Why didn't you just put a new gasket in it rebuild it? Should cost about 1/2-2/3 of rebuilding an SBC (many of the parts can interchange, but you only need half of them and half the machine work), and it can be done rather cheaply.

For future refrence if you need an SBC bolt pattern the fiero guys have adaptor plates for fairly reasonable prices.

Why did the head gasket blow?? I know the valves got rusted really quick. Ya know what, I sold the block and repowered with a complete v8 setup (out of a crate).. I even changed the outdrive.

I'd rather have 260hp in the ocean than 140hp personally.
