Junkyard Turbo Help
Recently I have been looking into the feasibility of a junkyard turbo or two for an engine I am in the planning stages of. This list is the only one of it’s kind that I seem to be able to scrape up anywhere. It’s a good list, but I have a few gripes.
First, the engine sizes on the list don’t go any bigger than 3.8L. Is 3.8L the largest factory turbocharged engine availible in a passenger car? What about non-passenger cars like trucks, busses and the like? Is there application info available on turbos like these?
Second, I can’t figure out what turbo they’re even talking about. For example: MERCEDES 300SDL 78-83 3.0L GAR TA0301. Obviously the GAR means garrett, but what is the TA0301 all about? How do you get from this to a manufacturer specific model # that you could have a chance of finding a map of?
Any help or additions to the posted JY turbo list is appreciated...

i cant really be too much help, but...
i hear most chrysler turbos are pretty small
the ford 2.3 60/63 turbos are a great choice for most mild build ups/ stock engines
the ford 2.3 IHI turbos are kinda small but will work (im going to use some) rumor has it they will work for a lower RPM smaller displacement engine
89JYturbo used some volvo turbos, also very small, but it made great torque, in the low RPM range
i think you can use t28's, but again very small
from what i came up with you just need to find two big T3's (turbo coupe 60/63's are on the bigger side, definately not the biggest though)
