what's the biggest shot you've sprayed on a dual plane ?

I have sprayed a 150 all the way down the track and a 210 in 1st and part of 2nd on the street. I want to spray 250, but have heard it's not recommended on an performer RPM ?

If i have to go to a single plane, i'm guessing the vic jr would be the best ?

thanks
Mike

I sprayed a 275 shot with a BigShot system on a 305, for a whole season, which means about 40 runs here. It had a Performer on it, not even an RPM. From what I could tell, distribution was'nt too bad, plugs looked the same, car pulled good, untill the driver overrevved it a few times and ended up breaking valvesprings. Other than that, the motor was fine. Maybee we were just lucky. I have also heard the distribution issues with dual planes, especially with Fords. Maybe they are more likely to have problems with their intake port spacing...
If this is a motor You have money into, and don't want to hurt it, I would stick to around a 200 shot, just to be safe...

hey tommyt what was all in that 305 to handle that? you think my stock rebuild 40 over 305 with nitrous hp cam 262 cam and performer intake/edelbrock carb can handle 100 shot?

sorry to hijack this post

We just did this 305 as a learning mule for my buddy's car to have a motor to learn racing and driving a performance car. Durability mods were: forged pistons, head and main studs and ARP rod bolts, stainless valves. Stock cast crank and rods. We did not care it he blows it up, since it was built to see how much it will take before something gives. Held together pretty good. I have posted about this before in a different nitrous thread.
The 100 shot should be safe even on a stock rebuild, as long as fueling and timing are taken care of, IMO.
With what I know now, maybe I would try and cut a chamfer in the plenum divider if the RPM intake doesn't have it, just like the newer ones have, this should help some with the distribution, but the possibility of fuel fallout will always be greater with a dual plane running a plate style system...

thanks

thanks for the replies .
and no harmn on the thread, actually a great question to the thread.

Well my motor is a stock cast crank, stock rods with ARP bolts and a hyper pistons. I also have the nitrous hp 262 cam. I located a vic jr so i'll switch over to that and just sell the performer RPM, shouldn't be aproblem to get rid of a 3 mo old intake for $80.

thanks for the replies.

175 is the max. any more and it could puddle in the plenum, or not distribute evenly. you can fogg a dual plane, and not have to worry about it. but at the same time, if you are spraying big, why run a dual plane?

run at the track on motor yet? the victor jr will give up about .05 on the 60ft, but pick up about .08 at the big end. you may see 1mph out of it depending on your motor setup.

it will definately run better on the bottle.

stage 20,

I haven't as it's snowing here in Northwest , IN. Our track opens in April. I thought about fogging the dual plane to keep the driveability good, but decided the vic jr was the easier way to go.
