Thirdgen Turbo Kits....Is There Such Thing?

do they make a turbo kit for our cars or do you have to put one together by yourself.....can you run a single turbo or do you have to have twins...also how big of turbo do most people use....can you run them on a stock bottom end or do you need to have all forged parts....can the compression stay at the stock ratio???how big of output do you usually see when bolting on turbo/turbo's...turbo's are all new to me, sorry for all the questions..also can you run a turbo with a carb, or is it easier with fuel injected??

Buy and read these books cover to cover at least once:

'Turbochargers' by Hugh McInnes
'Maximum Boost' by Corky Bell

If you are serious about turbocharging, this is the first and most important step.

You can custom build a turbo system, or buy one of BBSDesigns kits. He has a street TT, Race TT, and some nice single turbo systems available. Even with the kit, you better plan on some custom fabrication for the exhaust and intercooler plumbing, but the kits will save a lot of the difficult fabrication. You will also need to upgrade the fuel system to add the needed fuel when under boost.

With some research, you could also build a turbo system with turbos from a junkyard, like I did. Many people go this route, though the turbo system can still get expensive. My turbos cost around $300 off eBay, but I figured about $3000-3500 for the complete installation with the needed fuel system upgrades and all the accessories like the intercoolers, wategates, and blow-off valve (plus a ton of other misc components).

Power from a V8 turbo system is anywhere from a mild 400hp to wild 1500hp and over! There are turbos out there that can boost any engine to its physical limits.

Compression can be stock, but most people lower the compression for higher performance applications to allow for increased boost levels (raising the boost pressure will make more power than raising the compression). I installed my twin turbo system on a totally stock 90,000 mile L98, and did not upgrade anything in the engine (stock heads, cam intake, pistons, etc). It works very well, but it would not be safe to run high boost levels (over 10psi), and the stock heads/cam/intake really hinder performance. You will want start upgrading the engine components at around 400-450hp level for performance and reliability.

You can turbocharge a carbureted engine- many have done it with great success.

Yes you can, it may be a bit of a pain to tune but when sorted out, it works quite well...

How well may I ask? Did you get any drag strip runs or HP/TQ specs from it? I seen your TT Camaro in the appearance section here on TGO a while back, and it looks very well done. Do you have more pictures of it?
