NOS on V8 w/700R4

I'm not sure if I will ever get a NO2 system, but I was wondering how you would manage the NO2 while racing. Do you wait until your in your power band, do you wait until your almost to red line or do you do it at launch, or do I do it when i'm at the top of 3rd or what. Also, I've heard (and it makes sense) that if you are on the juice while your automatic is changing gears, you can over rev the motor and do some damage.

What kind of NO2 shot would a 305 block handle (bored 30 over). What about if you had 10:1 - 11:1 compression?

What NO2 system would you recommend for a 305 running a 1406 edelbrock carb? If at all, I was thinking about a 50-75 shot.

I'm hesitant because I'm not sure how to handle it.

125hp gives a good gain ,50 hp is not worth the money the kit costs.That's a ricecake number.The sooner you can hit it with out spinning the better.Nitrous gives a huge gain off the line.Leave it in drive and let it shift itself ,if it flares up between gears it's either spinning on 1st to 2nd gear change or the trans is going out.I've seen several 305's at the track being sprayed with 250 hp.

Ok, i did some more research, especially talking to my tranny builder and i now understand enough to not be affraid. Gonna look for a 125 shot setup, any that you can recommend?

I am using a 75hp dry shot right now(Zex) and it is fine.

I am going to get a rpm window switch to shut off the nitrous between shifts.

Have gone through 2 bottles and the stock tranny is doing fine(for now anyway).

I haev a level 3 tranny from Bowtie Overdrives, it will handle up to 630hp/tq so i'm not worried about that. I talked to them today about the shifts, they said it wouldnt be a problem being on the juice while it shifts

I’ve hit one with 175hp worth, and have seen as much as 225hp worth without scattering anything.

I’ll believe it when I see it. EVERYONE makes big claims and I’ve never seen one hold up when someone puts some real torque to it. I’ve asked just about all of them about “will your tranny live behind my turbo TPI smallblock?” and if pressed, not in public they’ll tell you something like “probably not”

Been put behind a 69 Z28 with a 427 running low 9's. That was a bad *** car. His brother has the same tranny in his 71 camaro that runs mid 9's on juice. I've been in both cars, they both had a 2004R, not a 700R4 (for better gear splits), they held up just fine pass after pass. The trannies were from Bowite, dont buy one from B&M or Jegs or TCI or anyone else, because yes, they will break.

take a look. You can also call torque drive if you need more proof, they make the reenforced input shaft and sun shell (some other parts as well)

i'll put my tranny behind almost any motor combo that is rated to be at or around 630 hp/tq.

The major problem is that they are not properly built, or not properly installed. Get one thats built correctly and installed / setup correctly and you can put some serious power in front of it.

There is a company in northern cali (dont remember the name) that builds them to hold (claims to hold) up to 1000 hp+

I dont know why you would run an overdrive tranny in a serious drag car to begin with, but ppl do. Personally i'd use a th-400 and better gears in the rear.

Again, I’ll believe it when I see it.

As far as why… well, just because it runs some serious times at the dragstrip doesn’t mean that it is not a street car.

true, but these were pure drag cars, the 69 Z28 had a sticker in the back window that said somethign along the lines of "If you dont race for cash, then dont race at all"

It's N2O not NO2.

N2O = Nitrogen Oxide
NO2 = Nitrogen Dioxide
