PLUGS! whats up? what are you 3RD genners using?

All the boards and even all the Nitrous companies recommend either NGK TR6's or autolites 103-104 etc...

I did a search on here and ALOT! with 3rd gens and stock heads are using the NGK TR6's or the autolite 103....if not all.

How are you guys using these plugs when the threads are SO MUCH longer than our stock plug lengths. I just got back from Advance and had them pull me a stock AC Delco plug for my car and numerous 3rd gens and all the plugs are the same length as the plug on the right which is an Accel shorty header plug speced for my car ses it right on the box.

I pulled the shorties out and replaced with TR6's ....and now Im hearing that with the length of the threads being so much longer that will cause a major problem with detonation because so much plug is going into my cylinders

I went with the NGK's with recommendation from you guys and the search.

How is everyone getting away with this and are you having any sort of problems?

am I going to have to pull these NGK's out? that mean I wasted the money on them...they are now used plugs...

Plugs

Hi,

If that long plug pictured in your post is working in your motor
without hitting a piston you must be using a deep dish piston.

That does'nt take into account all those nice sharp thread
edges that glow for pre-ignition.

Use the plugs the heads call for as to lenght
Get the rite plugs as to application, then adjust heat range
in that plug.

Im outside right now at 1230am putting the accels back in. damn all this crap!...........The TR6s that I took out already had carbon built up around the threads that stuck into my head to far and I only drove about 6 miles on them.

The accels actually looked alright,,they were all a light brown color except for the one that is in the picture.

I'll just wait and get the right length next week and take these others back. Im going to wait and hit it with another bottle after my Digi 6 gets back from MSD..Ive already ran 2 bottle thru it at 150

Do NOT use any platinum plugs in a nitrous, sc, or turbo motor.

If you are using the plug with shorter threads, I assume you have the older iron heads. The other is for later model aluminum heads (in general).

Get plugs that are intended for your head. If stock= stock style with different heat range. If aftermarket= use recommended plugs that were in the instructions with different heat range.

Holy crap you're lucky you didn't smash a piston into that thing.

yeah I know! atleast now anyone else doing a search about what plugs to run with what will be able to pull this thread and see that the plugs need to be the right size too.

or maybe I was the stupid one...oh well!

one good thing is Im down to about 45mins changing my plugs!
next time I should be down to 30mins...

thankgod! i hate doing them things...the worse part is pulling and snapping the boots back on....hard to get in there even with headers.
