NOS 1/4mile Question
NOS 1/4mile Question
I have a 69 Camaro that I occasionally race. It has a 406 w/ main studs, a cast crank, 5.7 rods w/ARP bolts. The posi was going out in the 12bolt, so I switched to a Strange S-60 w/ 3.73s still for the gears. I also now adjustable rear shocks, and switched from 275/60/15 BFG Drag Radials to the M/T Drag Radials(same size). Before, I ran an 11.890 @ 112.65 on the engine. I'm thinking I'll run a little better with a fully functional posi, better tires and better rear shocks. But now, I also have a NOS kit with 100, 125, and 150hp settings. Is my bottom end going to handle this ok? Any experience on ET improvement? I really want to get into the 10s. Any help is appreciated!

150 will put you into the high 10's.
What type of pistons, rods, and rings are you using? What are the rings gapped at? ASSuming that the slugs aren't cast, you should be fine. Hell, some people even run 200 hp over a cast piston, but I wouldn't recommend it.

They are GM 5.7 rods w/ARP bolts, Speed Pro Hyper pistons w/the anti-friction skirt, and the rings were gapped for NOS use, just in case. So you think the bottom end is ok for 150hp? Any advice on plug range/gap and timing is also appreciated.

I was going to use those same pisitons, but serveral people just dont trust them in any high performance application. They tend to be so hard, that they are brittle under detonation, and will shader. Ive seen local boys with them in 350s shader them in a N/A application with 10-11:1 cr.
I would highly recomend only doing the 100shot, and shart shopping around for good deals on a new forged crank, better rods, and forged pistions, if you want to go spraying on it. If you do still want to run the 100, post up if you are using the stock heatrange plugs, and maybe going colder, and lose some timming, about 2* per 50hp.
Its things like this that have had me building up my 383 for over 8months, and im still shopping for all the parts, but ive got my list
My plan on my 383 is to run 400+whp N/A, then add a teporary 150-200shot, untill i get my EFI stuff ordered and ready to be installed, then im going twin T61 turbos
with new AFR Heads, to drop the compression from 9.6:1 down to 8.8:1
