Turbocharged piston ring gap?

I'm wondering what kind of ring gaps you guys would use for a set of cast aluminum pistons, running say... 15psi, on a 3.524" bore?

I'm thinking .022" on the top ring, and .020" on the 2nd ring.

What do you guys think?

ALWAYS go by the piston manufacturer's recommendation. NOT the ring manufacturer. Piston design and material can affect required ring gap WILDLY.

Example.... a set of Keith Black hypers requires a minimum top ring gap of .032" for a mild street boosted application. A set of their forged pistons only requires .024".

IF IN DOUBT.... always go bigger. And by a fair bit. If .024" is good, .029" is better. Generally, you should open it up about .005-.006" compared to the recommended N/A top ring gap.

I just quoted this because I agree with it.

A smaller bore doesn't require quite as much gap as a larger bore, but Doward you are running cast pistons which reject heat more than forged and will require some extra gap. Better to error on the safe side there. I don't think you're too far off on your estimate, maybe add about .005" or so to the top. The second ring should be fine.
