Thoughts on the new Procharger D-1SC's?

I plan on getting a D-1 kit in the late winter to early spring, just wondered what you guys think about the SC (Self Contained) version of the D-1. Is it better to plumb the supercharger into the engine oil or have it self contained?

Well ive heard nothing but good things but the D1sc...and i really hope noone is blowing smoke up my a$$...cause mine should be shipped anyday now...i like the fact that if either the engine breaks or the blower breaks they can't contaminate each other...

Seems like a great idea to me. And well worth the extra $300 IMO. The unit requires oil changes at the same frequency as your engine oil and according to the company, it's easy to change. Historically, one of the most tiresome parts of the install was tapping into the oil pan. Just eliminating that bother is worth it.

Man, I hate to bring it up now but there was an ATI group purchase on the CamaroZ28 board. I just ordered my D1SC kit for $3423 (shipping included).

I got my head unit in last week ,it looks killer. So Willie you finally made the switch, good luck.Glad thirdgen is back up Buckeye about your question on the reliability of the D1SC,When I purchased my head unit from LaRoccas,I you dont know who he is,they run very competitive Mustangs in the 7s running the D3s and he also has a Street Renegade car in the 9s(this class prohibits intercoolers)running the D1SC,so the reliability of the unit is definatly there. He also informed me of the unit contributing to,he has enn up to a 60 degree cooler intake temps on their car, running the D1SC over running a conventional D1 ,fed by engine oil.He credits the temp drop to not running hot engine oil threw the unit.It is a pretty bullitproof unit, and Im glad I waited for it instead of getting the regular D1.If you are interested in the D1SC give LaRoccas a call,he seems to have alot of feedback on the unit that other vendors wont for a while.Phone # is 1-732-723-1500.Good luck

Maniacc,

The SC is not polished, but the ducting is. In any case, let me know how the install goes. I will not be receiving mine for at least another month and will be my project for November/December. I'm having my "pullied" for 15 psig @ 6,000 rpm on a "non-stock" 305. How about you? And do you happen to know how much ATI's proprietary fluid costs?

Willie,
Ok, i don't feel so bad now....you saved about $200 on your group purchase..because ati's price sheet say to add $200 for polished sc...and $150 for polished ducting...
I will have mine pulley'ed for 12# boost on my stock motor...and i'm going to try to retain my underdrive pulley's...but if i experience any overheating... the underdrives are outta there and i'll install the stock pulley's....
As far as the oil...I never did ask ATI what to run in the sc...because it was a last minute decision to go with the self contained....but i figured i would have a ton of questions after the install...so i'll just try to make one phone call..

One more day!!!!woohoo!!

later

Okay, here's the deal with the ATI lube. I was up there in KC earlier this year and took a tour of the place. The lube is a custom synthetic formulation designed especially for the ATI blower. The lube must be changed every 6000 miles (about every other engine oil change). ATI supplies unlimited oil for free the first three years. After that, you buy it.

Hey I have a 1987 IROC with a '88 350 in it, and i notice that ATI sells superchargers for 88-92's and im wondering if it would work on my car, i'm positive its a '88 engine, so if it would work how much are you selling it for?

thanks

Jack,

The ATI (and Vortech) kits are designed to work with the serpentine belt system, regardless of engine year. I'm in the process of converting my 1987 IROC-Z from the original multiple v-belt system to serpentine just for this purpose.
