Do I need a 4340 crank for a 300 shot of nitrous?
Do I need a 4340 crank for a 300 shot of nitrous?
I want a solid motor without any worries of it crappin' on me so if I need a 4340 crank then please let me know, otherwise I could use the money elsewhere. I'm going to use the NOS Sportsman Fogger kit on a 383 that will have anywhere between 450-500 horses.
Thanks

The 4340 crank would not be a bad idea but you don't "need it" you can use that much juice on a cast crank but in time the crank will suffer. A fogger will be a little easier on the crank/bottom end because it does not hit as hard as a plate system. The 4 bolt mains, steel crank, and after market rods you never realy "need" they are jsut insurence that the motor will last a little longer.
One thing I know you will need is a rev limiter.Weather you hook or not,rpm will shoot to the moon fgaster than you could lift your foor of the gas with 300 shot.I think if you keep the rpms reasonable,a good Gm forged crank would definatly do the job,4340 is overkill for the street if that what you are running.
