vortech mounting, and L-98 rebuild
vortech mounting, and L-98 rebuild
Ok heres the plan guys. I want to rebuild the ole L-98 she's got (90,000). I am also planning on installing a vortech. I know that I have to swap to the newer pulley setup no biggie there. And I plan on deleting the AC so the charger mounting wont be a factor, But what else would I run into as far as trouble goes. Does it matter that mine is a MAF car? And one last thing opinions here-- What type of internal engine upgrades u guys suggest while I have her tore down (ie. Compression ratio, better parts, cam suggestion)
One last thing which Vortech model should I go with?
Thanks Later

Well, I wouldnt use that hypertech chip you have.
I did what you are doing on my 86. One thing I learned, is that the vortech bracket completley replaces the drivers side accessory bracket so you dont even need to spend the money on that piece.
As far as internals, you have a lot of choices and it really boils down to what you want to spend. Id find a shop in your area who can machine your block and purchase high performance crank/rods/pistons
Although you could probably get by on a stock crank and stock rods, at the least, upgrade the pistons. Go with forged. TRW are the cheapest good piston. I would keep your compression anywhere from 9.0:1 to 9.5:1.
And the vortech model really depends on what you want out of it. The s-trim is a great blower but the t-trim is a lot better. Although you have to upgrade to at least an 8 rib pulley for that to work. Something which vortech does not stock, and you will have to purchase through ASP.
Good luck. If you have more questions, post thm in this forum.
