Mount a Procharger at oil pan level????

I called Procharger about this, my dime and waited a few minutes to talk to "Jethrow the sales/tech" monkey boy.

Anyway, I asked him about mounting the Procharger lower - about even with the oil pan.

He says "The compressor will hydrolock".

Right... there is no "closed chamber" to lock the compressor. The oil chamber and impeller has an exit and entrance. Hydrolock comes from a piston compressing a liquid into a closed volume.

On my installation (on a boat, gotta mount the charger low) I believe the oil hole exit of the procharger will be below the oil level of the oil pan.

I really don't see a problem with this. The only issue is that the gear chamber may be more full of engine oil.

Am I missing something???

Thanks

a73camaro,

This is just a suggestion, you could buy a self contained unit from ATI (P1sc or D1sc)....let them know what angle the blower will be sitting at so they can set the oil spray tube....then you could mount it anywhere....also another good idea would be to get a vortech air:water aftercooler, and pump seawater(lake water) thru it.....Very efficient....

Other than that, if you already have the supercharger with oil lines...You have to mount it above the oil level....this is so the oil doesn't get dammed up in the return line...

hope ths helps ya...

Appreciate the response, but still not clear.

There is nothing to "dam" up the oil except the small head pressure from a few inches of oil.

I have the chance to get a great price on a Procharger (oil-line style).

I am planning on adding an air-water innercooler (60° to 70° medium, YEAH!!!!).

O.K., I'm not certain on this, I don't think that there is alot of pressure coming out of the return oil line....ATI relies on gravity to help....if you don't allow the oil a place to go without resistance...it will back up in the line, then in the unit and this is when the hydrolock would occur,

Now think of this, you could possibly place a pump in the return line....but it would have to be sized properly so it wouldn't siphon the oil from the unit...

Call back to ATI (believe me...i know what a pain in the butt it is....nothing to wait on hold for 20mins)...and discuss this problem with one of the techs, not the salesmans...
