Guido,

Things are coming along just fine. I got my belt throwing problem fixed by insert one shim (washer if you will) on just one of the bracket mounting bolts. But since then, I had to send back my bracket for the latest modifications. ATI decided to give the tensioner more adjustability which included more mounting holes for the tensioner idler and a larger tensioner. They also wanted to space the crank pulley out about 1/8" (this required a shim). Also, they wanted to countersink some of the bolt holes. Last but not least, the bracket was awfully close to the PS pump pulley hub, so they radiused a "notch" to avoid any interference.

I received my bracket back Friday (01/26/01) along with the next smaller sized blower pulley. My kit was "designed" for 10 lbs boost, but I was only getting 7. This confirmed my suspicion that I was originally given the wrong pulley. Since then, it has rained (doesn't happen often here) and I've been unable to test the car fully. This will happen in the weeks to come.

What I have noticed is that I can get into boost a lot sooner than with the Paxton. And there is no doubt in my mind as to the effectiveness of the IC (intercooler). With my Paxton (and no IC), the blower itself was so hot you could not keep your hand on it. The discharge ducting to the throttle body was also as hot. With the D1SC, the compressor unit itself is warm to hot, but not nearly as hot as the Paxton. The discharge tubing in the engine compartment is warm. The tubing from the IC to the throttle body (again, in the engine compartment) is absolutely stone cold.

Given the above, I feel very confident I will be able to run a sub-12 1/4 (heck, I was only 0.04 seconds from this goal with my Paxton and nitrous). I'm so confident that I've already removed my nitrous.

My original request to ATI was to produce 15 lbs of boost. They talked me out of it -- that I should start around 10 lbs. I agreed. At 7 lbs, I can retain full timing (38 degrees) and my fuel pressure increases to 60 psig (from a no vacuum setting of 50 psig). This increase is accomplished by my AFPR. I do not have an FMU. My O2 readings are still slightly over 900mV, so I'm reasonable sure everything is okay. If I encounter detonation, I will reinstall my Carroll water injection setup and have it inject at about 8 psig boost. This should allow me to retain full timing, but we'll see how it goes in the coming months.
