RED HAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (PLEASE READ)

Well needless to say I am very about this....I wanted to make sure my spark plugs were in good order after spraying my N20...there is no pinging, the car pulls hard, and it feels great....the plugs did not have any damgae physically, but they had a slight redish haze to them...the plugs are gapped at around 35-37. I was told that this could mean I am running lean somewhat....Should I install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and pump my fuel PSI???? I am running a 255 Ltr holley fuel pump rite now..the plugs are AcDelco R45TS...I was told to get CR45TS...what do you guys suggest for my problem?? I am also planing on running 150 at the track....Let me know guys..Thank u for all your help!!!!

Your motor is bleeding? j/k

Do you run any octane booster? I have two friends who have taken heads off and even though they found no damage the pistons had a reddish haze over them. They both said that it was from octane booster?? Maybe just an urban myth of some sort. I dont know a lot about notrous so maybe Im only serving to confuse but I thought Id bring it up...

good luck.

Guido is in aiming in the right direction with his reply. Not the bleeding LOL. The red residue is from fuel additives. Not neccissarily just octane booster, but gas additives that the refineries add to make up the fuel. All pump gasoline has additives that make the final product what it is. Premium fuels have even more additives. Chevron supreme with Techron injector cleaner is an example.
The red ash is not a sign of being lean or detonation. In fact if it was lean the residue on the plugs would be very light in color. The plugs you looked at must have had a few miles on them. To get a correct "plug reading" you need to install a fresh set at the track. Make a pass and shut off the engine as soon as possible. Shutting of the power while still at WOT wile passing through the traps is prefered. That gives you the best "plug" indication of what is going on under WOT conditions. If you try to read a plug that has undergone idle & part conditions then you could easily misread the plug. As an example, you could be running a little lean at WOT but if you have a rich idle condition and idle the engine for a while after making a pass, then you could misread the WOT condition as being rich.

I hope that helped more than it confused.

I usually use an R43ts or R42ts plug on a hopped up iron headed motor on juice.

i had a friend with the same problem and it is usually from too much octane boost. he stopped using it for a while and the red haze went away. that is all.

Okay, well I am going to install the CRTS45 plugs this weekend and an MSD 6A, with a new coil, and drop my timing to 2 degrees, and squeez a 150 shot down the track.....Wish me luck...
