window switch range set at what?
That's all gonna depend on your motors characteristics. I have a friend running a solid cam and turning 7200 rpm out of his LT1. He's spraying from 3800 to 7100. Mine hits at 3500 and cuts out at 6250. If you're talking about a stock 3rd gen motor, I don't think I'd set it much higher than 5800. You're not gonna be shifting that high anyway, and you don't want to over-rev.
As soon as you can bring it in w/o taking the tires up in smoke. If you have the suspension for it, out of the hole.

not sure i am following. in the middle of the shift or rpm range? i assume that you mean rpm range. i would say as soon as you can. if that is right after you shift then bring it on. if you do that & the tires go up in smoke (probalby not likely, maybe right out of the hole it would if it is going to) then wait a bit longer.
