Holley 144 Powercharger

I am looking at getting a supercharger for my 84 camaro with a 305 carb engine. I know I need to get a new hood but I was wondering if I need to get rid of the computer or if I can keep everything in the car and just add that. I know I might get more if I do the tuning without the computer but I am looking for the power right now and I will change to a non computer controlled engine setup later. Please give me your thoughts on this.

Thanks
John

Axle/Gears: stock... whatever that means :)
Ever thought about running a Procharger? Just get the universal small block chevy kit. That way you wont have to cut a hole in the hood.

just asking.. how much have you read up on supercharging and all that is involved? i bet that if you compared an ATI supercharger(centerfugal) vs. the 144 holley on the same 305, the ATI would put out about 3 times the power. yea, the holley is like 1200$ or whatever, but if you consider that its not intercooled and doesnt support the same hp that , say a D1 does.. comon now.. you see a problem? spend the extra money, and have a demon under the hood, instead of a mildly pumped up 305.

Thanks for your input. I have a couple of questions though. If I go with a procharger how is it feed to the carb? Is there a kit or do you make your own? I did think about a procharger and by the time I spend the money on the hood I would want and the supercharger It might be better to go the other way. Also I would like to keep the car a half sleeper car.

Thanks
John

Hey,

Im runnin a wieand 177 on my 355 and works great. But honestly you can get a lot more power and will be cheaper in the long run if you just swap that 305 out for a 350.

Hey Cody/will0325..nice of you to stop by.

Roots blowers are cool..but I agree don't waste it on a 305. Definatly don't try keeping a computer controled setup.

Where's Willie when you need him!!!

If you like your 305, don't ditch it for a 350, Willie car is a perfect example, He has a ATI procharger D1sc on his built up lil' 305 and is running low 12's with out even running the car hard (just a shake down run)...I believe he is going to the track this weekend and my bet is he'll hit 11's...

And yes you can put the ATI procharger on a carbed car all you'll need is the carb hat and a carb set up to handle the forced air going through it.

If it wasn't for the whine under my hood you'd never know that my car any faster than a stock camaro...it's so fun whipping on all these new ram air T/A's and camaro SS's

so have fun

I have thought about a 350 but I have to watch how I go about things because of that nice Emission test we have here. If I go over board with a 350 it could be hard to pass. That is why I am looking at a supercharger and then I could always go to a 350 and put the supercharger on that. I have a lot of work to do on my camaro besides this. I want to get it painted soon, I need a new front window, and once that is done I already have new carpeting that I need to lay in there. Besides trying to get it faster. : )

Ive got the B&M blower on my car right now (the 144)

Im about to remove it and sell it. If u are interested , email me at

blown350Camaro@hotmail.com

I like the blower, but its not enough power for my Drag car, ive gotta step up to the 871 blower..

It works great and creates about 6 PSI with the pulley i currently have. I'd stick it on your 305 and leave it untill it blows (if it does) then you can put the 350 in..

Good luck & if u have any questions feel free to ask..
