which Motor for boost?
id like to have a weekend drivable 1000-1200 hp...using boost controllers etc.
either a 408 LS1 stroker iron block
or
383-400 stroker iron block
i fig most will suggest the 408 and the only thing is id like to have top mounted turbos and for some reason most ls1s dont have the room to do so i guess...do you guys think our cars would have the needed clearance?

Do you mean 383-400ci regular sb chevy blocks or Gen3 style blocks also? Old style chevy small blocks are stronger and cheaper to build. Thats my .02 cents.

yeah i was talking sbc block...well i know the lsx are great for response to modification so i fig id get the power out of it easier with less boost than using a sbc block

this is kinda old but i would still like opinions bec im am still deciding
408 LS1
GOOD: Better flow characteristics and design, strong, great aftermarket
BAD: EXPENSIVE $$$ on all accounts
383 SBC
GOOD: Cheaper, aftermarket, strong, good power
BAD: Restrictive Design
What i guess i dont understand is how can the SBC flow so much less than the Gen III motors and be restrictive yet with FI, can still produce well over 1000hp? If i ran the same boost through a 400 SBC and a 408 LS1 under same conditions...how much more will the ls1 make than the SBC bc thats all i would be paying so much extra money for right?
