Quad Turbos??

OK well i was lookin in the new Motor Trend Mag and they have an article on the new Ferrari W16 motor and since its a 16 cylider they have 4 turbos hooked up to it!! Is it possible to quad turbo a third gen motor specifically a modd. 350? I was thinkin that it could be possible to get 4 smaller turbos and hook them up to 2 headers each instead of 4 to one turbo... or wouldnt there be enuff exhaust pressure for it and therefore defeat the purpose??

The ford Gt-90 has 4 turbos, it is a v-12 that is around 6000 cc. I think 4 turbos is just overkill. plumbing 4 turbos in a third gen would be difficult (I imagine)

Moran is running a Quad in his 4th Gen. you talk about plumbing nightmare. He has two of the turbos sandwiched between the A arms for the front end.

Here's a pic of Moran's quad-turbo engine. You should be able to see how hard it would be to install it in any car.

It made 2190 HP if I remember correctly. I saw them run this thing at the worldstreetnationals in Orlando but they coudn't get any traction at all...
But the motor has already been banned so don't expect to see it run at any sanctioned race.

I think I recall him saying something to the affect that they thought that would happen, so they were allready building a TT setup for the car. I dont see why they would ban a Quad & allow a TT (or vice versa). this does not make any sense to me.

It wasn't a new Ferarri, it was the new Bugatti. It makes 1001 hp on the european scale, like 954 on ours. That would be sweet.

can you imagine that thing in your thirdgen. What would you do when it was time to change the spark plugs? Take off the turbos and plumbing. Seems like maintenance is a pain on that monster.

He does the kind of racing where you rebuild the engine pretty much every race, and the body of the car comes off to work on it, so I doubt he's worried about changing the spark plugs. It's in a 4th gen by the way.

Yep, that's right. The motor doesn't have any gaskets either, it's completely o-ringed..!

The thing about these turbo motors is though that they are not rebulding them every run. not only that they are getting right around an entire season w/o a major rebuild. as opposed to a few years ago when they were running the monster motors (700 CI) with monster NOS systems & they were having to @ a very minimum run the valves & change plugs every run. now all they do is run the valves between events & go racing.

All that & they are running 200 MPH, in a word AWESOME!
