Thats a good question. I was told I could run a 75 or 100 HP shot on a bone stock 1988 TBI 305 motor and not have to change anything or worry about damaging anything. True or False? Sorry to take away from your topic but how big of a shot can you use without having to change anything ?

I've looked into this quite a bit. I plan on installing a kit too although my car isn't stock. The best thing to do is buy a kit from NOS, Nitrous Works, NX, etc. that's made specifically for your car. You'll have all the parts you need with a calibration(jets) that are suitable for a stock engine since that's what those kits are designed for.

Most important is too make sure the car is running in top condition including factory ignition/timing specs. If all is correct and in good shape AND you follow the directions closely you should be fine with the 75-100hp shot.

depending on you application of nitrous you need to make major modifications, a forged rotating assembly would be needed for anymore than 175 HP, l got away with a 150 HP shot on a stock rotating assembly 305, nothing was changed, but l closely monitored my fuel pressure, checked all 8 plugs constantly, and examined my ignition components after every visit to the track.
with a bone stock TBI 305 I'd say that you could make 150 horses with nitrous, but NOS reccomends nothing over 100.

The things to remember are fuel pressure... I would recommend an electric high pressure gauge to monitor. Spark plugs one to two ranges colder (and not the TS plugs with extended tips.. you want a nice, short, fat grounding strap... the ac Delco RT42T is perfect for me, but discontinued and harder to find... gap them at 35, not 45. Stock chip, not aftermarket. Upgrade your ignition to an MSD system. Tranny cooler to keep it together after multiple runs. Suspension upgrades as necessary... the Spohn relocation brackets for the LCA's would be minimum, and tires in the rear, Comp T/A if you dont care aabout tread life, NITTO 555R's if you do.

This will get you started, and running safely... check your plugs after your FIRST run.
