Installed tubular k-member this weekend

You can see how much room is saved by looking at the brake line in the first photo. It bolted flush to the stock k-member and is not even close to the new one.

Looks good. Did they recomend not using it on a car that road races? I'm interested but am curious about the strength of it.

If you purchase a mild steel version then you will be alright. They say the chromoly ones arent as durable for road use.

Guido, just out of curiosity, would that be strong enough for a street driven daily driver? I like the simplification, the weight reduction, and the extreme ease to get to , say, the oil pan, starter, and brake/tranny cooler lines. BTW, what do they run?

Yea I would trust it for a daily driver.

Check out the website for the place I bought mine from.

www.paracing.net

They have prices and a contact number. They can answer more questions then I can.

That is niice Guido. Just doesn't look quite as strong as the factory k-frame, but long as its strong enough you should be alright
I bet it will make everything 10x easier and will be well worth the $479.
Are you going to use Rack & pinion steering?

Guido,I haveheard this from Jim to,he told me the same thing ,but I called PA,and they told me a diferent story.Told me the Chromemoly,is welded differently, almost makes it look like a machined piece. He told me either one is fine for anything I would want to do with it.Just told me what ever your preference.I asked him about the steel one being better for the road and he told that was not true.

By the way are you going with the manual steering rack too?

Guido:

What type of front motor mounts are you going to use.

I see in the picture the front motor mounts cut off.

Thanks

Thats a good question, why did you cut the motor mount pads off?You run a V8 and should have no problem with the supplied ones, even I was able to leave them in and weld up the mounts for the V6(see pic)

Steve: I'll go ahead and answer for him. It's because he's running a motor plate. Doesn't need them.

If I'm not mistaken, motor mounts are an "optional" extra-cost item....

FWIW, here's my tubular K-member (probably
seen it before) and I have no fear about
open road racing it. http://www.applink.net/~thartman/K-member.htm

Like Jester said, I am installing a motor plate. I am having my roll cage finished up this winter and putting struts through the firewall and attaching to that.

I found this on Guido's home page

"I Cut the motor mount pads off of the k-member since I decided to go with the front engine plate."

Now a question for you about the k-member that you linked is it still in production. one of my racing friends runs a open road 3rd gen and he was looking to upgrade his car. I think going 209 mph is fast but he wants more. Please let me know more about it if you can.

Thanks
Jerry

blown87gta,thats a nice looking k-member there.Looks a bit heavy though. Are those caster/camber plates avalable and from where? They look like they would be a nice addition to my PARacing setup scince I'm using coilovers also.

Guido, looking good, sorry to ask a stupid question,I remembered you were going with a motor plate about 10 minutes after I posted

Thanks,
Steve

See http://www.roadtechonline.com but I doubt he has them listed yet. I don't know how many he has, but the weight w/mounts is about the same (maybe a little less) than the stock K-member. I used one for header & oilpan clearance (looks cool too eh? )

The Castor/camber plate is an integral part of the coilover kit. I don't know if it's sold separately or not. I would ask how you are mounting the PARacing kit at the top if you are NOT using some sort of custom plate?
Road Tech's email was listed in the pictures,
but I'll post it again; roadtechonline@yahoo.com

The PARacing kit slips right over the struts and fits right up to the stock mount. The springs on the PA kit are not that long they are regular coilovers.I'll try to get some pics of it soon.

I was just wondering about them cause they look stronger than stock and scince I'm gonna replace them anyway, but if they are a part of the kit I'll stick with the stockers as they are strong enough.

So the top "mount" of the PA racing coilovers
just presses upward on the -stock- strut mount?? Wow, I'd be scared $hitless that those three smallish bolts holding it on would fail... I would appreciate any pictures you have though.

I'm going to try to post some pics, hopefully it'll work right.

I'm not worried about the bolts as they have been replaced with grade 8 fasteners I was just asking cause I'm always looking to improve anything I can on my car.
