JY turbo help and some questions

Hey there! I recently decided on going FI with my project 350 in the basement.. but my real question is, I want to use the turbo I'm going to use on the 350 on my 305 in the mean time just so I can have some fun with it before it gets taken out.

I was wondering if the turbo from the ford thunderbird turbocoupe would be an ok single turbo to feed the 305 for a while. I believe this to be a garret t3?

Anyways, I was wondering if for low boost applications, say anywhere from 5-7psi, if I would have to lower the compression at all or just raise the octane of my fuel to avoid detonation. My second question is, would I be able to get away with just larger injectors as the only modification to the engine besides the turbo header? Like, keeping MAF?

I am bout halfway through Hugh Macinnes turbo book, and I have learned alot, but I still dont know a lot of things specific to my application.

Anyones insight into this would be great. Remember, since this is gonna be on the 305, it's definitely a budget build, both with money and time taken into consideration. Thanks!

One of those turbos will be too small for a 305. If you could get two of those and do a twin setup it might be alright, but that turbo was for a 2.3L engine.

This site has a lot of the junkyard turbos listed. I got my large single on eBay.

That depends on what your compression is now. The ideal compression ratio is anywhere between 8:1 to 8.5:1. Anywhere higher and you might run into detonation problems. You'll definately want to run better fuel though. Also, for a stock engine, the max boost you should run is 5 or 6psi. Any higher will require internal engine modifications or the stock engine will not last long.

My second question is, would I be able to get away with just larger injectors as the only modification to the engine besides the turbo header? Like, keeping MAF?
I'm carbureted, so someone else will have to answer that one. As long as you can supply enough fuel so that you're not going lean under wot, you should be ok.

Make sure you do plenty of research before you do anything and the book by Hugh Macinnes is a good place to start.
