Diesel Turbo

Hey i need to know if you guys think its a good idea to put a diesel turbo in my '86 v6 2.5 tpi. If so then how much lbs. pressure do you think would be my max?

My buddy has a '92 z28 and hes wanting to know the same thing. except he has a 350 5.7 with a turbo 350 tranny. How much do you think he could use without blowing up his engine?

Thanks!
Jake

None! I remember replacing lots of heads, headbolts, and headgaskets. When these turkeys were on the market years ago it wasn't uncommon to me to have three or four of these turds apart and waiting for parts. The best thing to do with one of these turkeys are as follows (1) find someone you don't like (2) throw it in their yard (3) drive away at a high rate of consumption. The only thing they were good for is job security. If a turbo diesel is what you want go buy a truck.

I think he was talking about putting a diesel turbo on a gas engine. Not putting a diesel turbo engine in the car.

I've read the stock cranks in a 2.5 are like toothpicks, but if you're lookin to grenade a motor I'd go with a 14B from a DSM, a 2.5L K-car turbo or a 2.3L ferd turbo preferably from a an 87 or earlier unit with a manual. A ford Probe unit or a later T-bird turbo would work, may be a bit on the small side though.
What's the story on the 5.7, is it an L98 motor or something else? I'd be looking at an HX-40, S400 (on the big side) or a 7.3L Powerstroke turbocharger. He'll probably have to use an external waste gate for the first two, and if he uses an earlier 7.3L unit he'd need an external WG too.

ED:if you're talking about the Olds diesels I don't think they ever made a turbo version anyways, although some aftermarket company may have offered a kit or something.

Diesel turbo's usual have huge exhuast housings with small compressor housings(compared to exhaust). So i dont think you'd find a diesel turbo for the 2.5, unless it was a tiny diesel engine.

You just need to look for a turbo of a diesel that needed to meet stricter emissions/particulate emissions standards, they’ll have tighter exhaust housings to allow them to spool more aggressively.

Ok, you guys have all been a big help. But im not Looking for a Diesel turbo. I'm getting one from a friend. so basically im just gonna put it in my Stock '86 camaro and hope that it dosent blow up as long as i keep it under 5 psi.

My buddys car prolly has a good chance of working properly over 5 psi. so i think hell be ok but im just going to put an intercooler on, mabey get a performance crank and test it out.
