Turbo Clocking or Indexing Questions

I have a new KKK Turbo to replace the one that locked up on a Porsche 930 Race Car.

I don't know squat about the Porsche or Turbos, but am learning.

went to install new turbo and the housing was not indexed properly to align with the intercooler or oil lines after bolting to headers.

Is clocking the Turbo is easy as it looks? Just loosen bolts and turn housing?

Are there any issues that I need to be aware of that could damage the unit?

I know this is not on a 3rd Gen car, but this is the place I come to for info and my family owns 5 3rd Gen so I hope that constitutes and exception.

Please chime in with advice.

if I remember correctly the Porsches use an external waste gate so yes it should be as simple as popping the housing(s) off and rotating them. If you've gotta do the exhaust be sure you get it the first time they get a lot more fun to seperate after it heat cycles a few times.

Thanks,

waste gate is seperate.

Can both sides be clocked seperatly.

example Intake /Oil system Bearings/ Exhaust

The way it is now if I bolt up exhaust flange intercooler and oil lines do not match up. Can I clock the middle portion and the intercooler connection seperatly?

Any tips?

yes, you can pull both housings off. If it's a new turbo the exhaust housing should come off fairly easy, you may end up having to tap it all around with a mallet or the likes to get it to come off. Work around it evenly so that you don't bind it. The cold side should just unbolt and pop off fairly easily. Be careful of the O-ring that's on the compressor, as to not cut it when you pull the housing off. DO NOT start the engine up till you're sure the housings are right though, you don't want anything to do with the turbine housing after it's been hot cycled. Other then that I'd probably consider anti-sieze on the turbine bolts and blue loctite on the compressor side when I re-assembled it, and anti-sieze (preferably copper) on all mounting flange bolts or studs of the exhaust side. No use making it a pain to remove if you've ever gotta do it again.
