twn trbo help PLEASE!!
I will try to keep this short and sweet. I turned 16 in 1990 and a friends dad had a blue 89 iroc z, this became my dream car. After 16 years I finally found almost exactly what I wanted. blue 87 iroc z but with the 5.0 tpi. As I plan to twn trbo this motor, cu. in. are not my major concern. I make my living as a heavy truck drivability tech but have lost touch with the auto end of electronics. I do understand turbos very well and there neverending potential. When I met my wife she owned and drove a turbo sunbird gt.. She was reluctant but let me tune it up. Just before I scattered the baby 4 banger all over the strip it was running 13.9 1/4. My best friend had a stock mustang and was very disappointed when I beat him with a 4 cyl. by a car length. Sorry this is not as short as I hoped but I do need some help. All of the info on the net is overwhelming and from what Ive read no one makes a kit for irocs and everyone is building there own. Ok heres the questions. Where can I find good: Exh manifolds, turbos, aftercooler, injectors, fuel pump, map, ecu, etc, for 400 to 500 rwhp and someone who has attempted this to help prevent me from some of the costly trial and error expenses. Anyone who would offer any info would be greatly appreciated. I did call Banks and the parts they offer seem great but the price is too!

Well i will offer some help.
For an ECU you are probably going to be wanting to run a Megasquirt, I have heard people running 24# injectors up to some pretty high HP numbers with alot of added base pressure, but this IMO is not the correct way to do it. Get some 36# injectors or better. For the fuel pump, a standard Walbro 255 is going to be your best bet.
You can fit some rather large intercoolers in front of the Air Dam on Camaro's, the one i will be running (and i have seen others) is a 34" "Ebay Special" intercooler like the one found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/32-IN...spagenameZWDVW
I have no clue about the other parts listed in that auction, they look cheap, but the intercooler is a nice piece, i have one.
Now if you are looking to go Twin turbo, i think you should take a long hard look at the driver side of the engine and imagine where the turbo would be and imagine where the downpipe will go.
IMO it would be easier to go with a single large Turbo located on the passengers side, i think on a 305 a Holset HX40 would be a prime choice. A properly sized single large turbo will spool just as fast and be capable of same boost as a properly sized twin turbo setup. If you grab the book "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, he also will explain how a larger turbo (in general) is more effecient than Twins.
Overall, there is plenty of info here, use the search function, and http://www.turbomustangs.com/ also has alot of info.
Have fun and good luck.
ur alrite
thanks for the suggestions. I have looked at the driver side and Im scared, but whatever doesnt kill ya just makes ya stronger. And I aint scared!! I wont be starting this project untill I have all my ducks in a row and u just set up the first duck Thanks.

Well when someone sees the size of your compressor housing they will also Quiver.
An HX40 is a decent size turbo, an HX50/55 is even better.
I think 1 large turbo would scare me more than 2 tiny T3's.
The tiny T3's won't be scaring you when all you can see is the car's taillights.
Just read through this forum and use the search function. More than enough people have answered all of your general questions. If it's all too overwhelming, just think about one specific thing at a time and read up on it until you have a good idea of how it works. Also, don't take any one person's advice as fact, lots of people often do things lots of different ways. Some work, some don't.
Good luck with the new IROC! I know the feeling (4 times over).

Another option is the 1227749 ECM that came in turbo Sunbirds, Syclones and Typhoons and a 1 or 2 bar MAP sensor. Personally, I think that if you pop the hood it won't matter wether or not you have one or two turbochargers on it, the reaction should be pretty similar. Since you're a diesel tech you may be able to get access to some turbos, what I'd reccomend are cummins 4BT units with wastegate or Isuzu NPR turbos, for a single something like a 6.0/7.3L powertroke turbocharger would be quite nice. Try to stick to more modern waste gated units as they tend to have an A/R more suitable to gasoline engines, although the 96+ powerstroke turbos are all 1.1 or .85 for the 6.0s. The 6.0 turbo will cost some power, but for a stock 305 it'd be more then enough. I'm wanting the 7.3L turbo for my 305 when I get it in since I have a modded engine, should be good for in the neighborhood of 550hp from what I've read.
I wouldn't use less then 30# injectors even on a stock motor, 42s would be preferable to give room for future mods or a race gasoline tune. A different fuel pump is mandatory too, something like the Racetronix 340M kit with the harness upgrades.
