406 or 355 single turbo

its a shame i really would like one of those BBS turbo kits, it would make my life and decision so much easier, lower comp 350 with same top end i'm using now (old afr's,super-ram, 30lb inj's etc etc....)
or i was going to do a 406 with afr 210's, aggressive roller, etc...
i feel i am at a x road here..... and do not have the time to fab up a set of turbo headers. but at the same time i not sure if i want an irritable rough idling (hard to cool sometimes) big inch motor to equal that of a milder boosted motor....
not sure need to think about this. like i said life would be easier if the kits were still available.

flip over the S10 v8 headers, cut off the flange at the end and do it that way if you'd like. Otherwise a power adder 355 will make more power than the 406 at a lower rpm and probably live longer as well as costing around the same but be much more fun to drive.

thats what my gut is telling me, but power adders are new to me. i know that with the proper research and support (here) i feel that i can do it reasonably well.

maybe its age(joking...) but i want something alittle more toned down, i'm tired of my cabinets rattling when i start my car.....plus i see all these LS-1 guys with single turbo 346's flat out hualing ***.

ls1 guys have 15 and 11 degree aftermarket heads, you'll never attain the same results mod for mod as them ever. Their heads just outflow any 23 degree offerrings. Might be cheaper to just swap a cam'd ls1 in the car and get the same results.

I've got a 399 (just not bored over, nearly same as a 406), with a 236/230 on a 113 roller hydraulic cam & AFR 210's, and the idle isn't too bad - check out the 17 dyno runs thread for the video to see first hand, and that's not muffled. I've never heard of a large cam giving cooling problems, just the guys that underdrive the water pumps. Get a good Stewart water pump, a pair of solid electric fans, and a good radiator, and you'll never have a problem.

OTOH, why not just run the 350 now until you reach the limits, get comfortable w/ the turbo system, and upgrade whenever you get tired of only "xxx" horsepower? Especially if you don't have the time, use what you have now...

the 355 i have now is an older nonroller block, thats been in the car since 99 with the afr L98 190's, the car now ran great ( i would guess from competitive late night vehicle comparisions) that i'm sitting on loooow 12's to like 11.9's. but the other day i broke a push rod, rocker stud and peices of lifter in the valley. since the motor needs to come apart anyway i'm thinking its time to upgrade.....i've allways wanted a 406 , i've heard small block 400's are alittle harder to cool since they have siamesed bores. any way cant decide between big inch badass or small whistling motor. thats what it pretty much boils down too in the end.

406 guys chime in here.....
