advice on turbo please
i have an ebay T70 turbo, i know i know, its probably junk as far as quality but i was wondering what anyone could tell me about efficiencies, compressor maps, and just overall sizing compared to a genuine T70?
i originally planned on using it as a conventional mounted turbo with a BBS single header, but just out of curiosity how would this turbo work as a rear mounted unit??
(TPI 350, TH350, 3.23's +/-10psi)
thanks in advance

"60 trim
t-4 70 mm turbo
.81 ar exhaust
4 inch inlet
3 inch exhaust v band outlet
I measured the inlet ( not where the hose clamps, that is 4") but, the opening where the air goes in.......I get 67.5 mm."
this was from a post on turbomustangs.com that matches the same description and price as mine, mine is in the mail and should be delivered today or tomorrow. so i have not had it in my hands yet to measure.

Re: advice on turbo please
I have read more success stories than failures about the Ebay T70 turbos. I do not own any Ebay turbos. I read as much as I can find about them. It seems hit or miss with them, but most people seem to get ones that hold up.
The typical Ebay T70 has a 60mm inducer wheel. most would call it a T-60 in Garrett turbo terms, but the A/R and exducer size matters also. You measure it at the tip of the inducer wheel and the tip at the exducer wheel to get thr trim. The A/R is measured at a certain scroll point to calc. the area and radius. I forget if the exhaust is a T3 or T4 flange. I thought they were T4 but can't remember. Post the length/spacing between the center of the turbine inlet bolt holes. This will help determine if it is usable as a rear mount. If it is a T4 .81 A/R turbine, I would say it is rather large for a stock 350ci TPI........but it all depends on what type of spool characteristics and power you are after.
Rear mounts have thier place, but on most vehicles I think a engine mount is a superior setup. Rear mounts have a lot of wasted energy, but then again, most power are looking for simply more HP, not the most HP they could get.

Re: advice on turbo please
i really want to mount my turbo convetionally but dont really want to sacrifice the little good weather driving /track time i get here in upstate NY, to take the car apart right now and fabricate. so i am playing with the idea of mounting it in the rear for now, the only thing i should have to buy that would be used in a front engine bay mounted setup is an oil scavenging pump...right?
my question is what size diameter should the charge pipe be from the compressor to the TB, i am asking because i know a guy with over 20 feet of stainless steel exhaust tubing(alot of straight stuff, and various elbows and bends) for sale for only $100.00 but it is only 2" o.d. the only reason i've considered using pipe this small is because wouldnt it help with velocity, or would it creat to much restriction and back pressure on the 'cold side'???
thanks for any advice

Re: advice on turbo please
Yes, you need an oil pump, inlet line, and more cold side pipe. A small oil sump tank would be nice also.
As for the cold side diameter, use the ID of the turbo outlet for sizing the pipe. Make the minimum pipe ID the same as the turbo outlet ID. Is the S/S pipe really worth it? What grade is it? Can you weld S/S? Can you re-use it later on if you decide to front mount the turbo? Those are things to keep in mind. If you are just try to get something up and running fast then use the S/S pipe regardless of the diameter if you can weld it. It doesn't sound like you are looking for an optimal setup. It sounds like you want more horsepower in general. Get a SurFlo pump, a clamp on air filter, a roll of inlet oil line, a roll of oil return line, some cold pipe and you are there. Just make sure to leave the pump running for a bit after you shut the engine down. Good luck.
Did you figure out if it is a T3 or T4 turbine yet?

Re: advice on turbo please
it has a T3 flange and says ".70 A/R" on the compressor housing.
tell me if i am wrong but shouldnt this spool well, and not fall on its face too badly at between 5000 and 5500rpms?
5-10psi boost
possible 50hp wet shot also.
