Building S/C motor, what do I need?

Starting out with a 350 block bored .040 over. What pistons and rods? I have a eagle forged crank already. Heads wise I was thinking Vortec. Suggestions on heads, cam and intake? The motor will be a carbed engine (750cfm Holley double pumper). Probably get a used kit off of ebay or wait a long time to buy a new kit. What would work well with a carbed engine? I don't like the look of the "bonnet" atop the carb, any other choices besides the Vortec Box? Pics of carbed S/C'd motors would help. What power numbers would I be looking at with say 8 psi? What compression ratio is good? I would like around 400-450whp maybe more depending on what parts are used I guess.

My trans will be a ST10 4 speed. Rear will most likely me an upgraded 10 bolt but I might get a Moser 9" or 12 bolt. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Well if you are sticking with carbuerator then I think you are stuck with either the bonnet or going with a roots type blower. As far as pistons and rods, call the experts to help match the exact compnents but usually high powered blower cars might want h beam rods versus I-beams. Figuring on the compression ratio and boost level you want to run will dictate what the exact dynamics of the piston will be but forged units are suggested.

Demon355,

You could do a pressurized box like the igloo. Thats about it. Or if you go Roots No need for a bonnet at all.

As for rods/pistons. 400-450 HP you can use stock Pink rods or some eagle i beaams if you want. and a set of decent forged pistons will be fine. (trw/speed pro) RPM is what will kill rods. detonation is what will kill your pistons.

Stock rods/cast pistons will live in a 700 HP 20 PSI boosted motor. but ONLY will a dead on tune. Any detonation you will pop a hole in a piston. Try to rev it to the moon and your gonna twist a stock rod up like a pretzel.

I dont like the way a Bonnet looks either. So i decided to make a 90* elbow and get a willson 90mm TB for my Vic Jr I converted to EFI. Woulda been cheaper to get a 4bbl style TB and bonnet but "I DONT LIKE THE LOOK EITHER"

Some people are about show and go.. Of all people to rag on someone because he wants his engine bay to look good. Ya you have a carb and bonnet and your engine bay looks bad A$$ I like your build. But Dont rag on someone because HE doesnt like it.
