garrett gt-45 : need ex housing help
ok well i just got an Garrett gt45 from a friend for free, the turbo has like 0 time on it and is ready to be bolted onto my car.
except it came of a tractor trailer so it has what apears to be a t6 flanged ex housing that is way to dam large for my 3.1L v6.and a 5 inch vband outlet.
can i get a t4 ex side for this turbo or would i have to change the turbine shaft as well
anyone have any suugesstions on a good sized ex housing to run on this thing for my car. right now ive been running an t3/t4 hybrid with a t3 .63 ex housing and its worked out great

Are you sure that is a GT45 and not a GT42? The GT42s were very popular on the diesel engines. The GT42 turbine wheel is usable on a V6. All that I have come across for GT45 turbine info is T6 flanged. Maybe give dave@majestic a call and see if he can cut the exhaust wheel down and install a smaller turbine. Probably cheaper to put a larger comp. wheel on a smaller turbine setup. It is worth the call though.

You are right. It does come in a T4 flange.
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...45/GT4508R.htm
That 3.42" exhaust wheel is still rather large. Even with the small T4 A/R I think it will spool late, but be good for 1200 HP.

ill give it a shot,if not i have a 60 shot of nitrous i can use to spool it.if it still lags to bad i can always sell the turbine shaft and housing and get something smaller.
though a .84 turbonetics housing should work well, 3.0L supra guys use those, and im going from a 260 mech cam to a mechanical 272 grind which should allow me to turn around 8,200 rpms, and im getting my converter restalled to around 5-5,300
btw the twin turbo setup put down some serious numbers @14psi (twin t61's) so id really expect the gt45 to blow those numbers away

A 3.4 liter would be happy with that compressor map at 8,200 with a good cam in it. It puts it at just about peak efficiency. Looking at the Garrett T4 1.01 A/R turbine map and "guessing" where a .84 A/R curve would be shows that boost would start around 5,000 RPM or so. Your converter would work just about perfect......you probably already ran the numbers.
Majestic has the S400 with an exhaust wheel the same size as the GT42 with a T6 1.1 A/R, and the comp flows enough for 1000 HP (less than the GT45) and they were priced around $600 new. Not sure if they still have them. A lot of the V6 guys were buying them.
You have the twin setup running now?

Re: garrett gt-45 : need ex housing help
the twin setup was dynoed on one of my new motors, lets just say its kills my old setup by leaps and bounds, but boost didnt come in till 4k rpms so i want to try something different with it.
since i have foward facing headers with vbands i could easily fabricate a ypipe top use a single turbo without haveing to fab a whole new setup.
oh i plan to be able to launch this thing under full boost off the line, antilag system works very well, i tested it a lil bit on my single turbo motor, though on the single turbo motor i can use the footbrake and e-brake to lock the rear tires and build boost without the antilag. but that deff wont happen with the gt45,so im sure ill make very good use of the antilag system.
if i go ahead with this im deff gonna swap to a 10.5 slick as i had a pretty hard time keeping the car pointed staright last weekend at the track on the single turbo motor
