twin t4 turbos or procharger d1sc?
Hi guys, I am looking for some advise. I posted a few ?'s up about this a couple months ago. My engine is a 1970 350 block 4bolt splayed main caps, 30 over with an eagle forged 383 crank, eagle h beam rods, Keith black pistons, (compression is 8-1) comp custom ground cam for forced induction, crane 1.6 roller rockers, copper head gaskets, patriot 215cc alluminum heads topped off with a ported accel super ram. I will be using 2 Aeromotive a-1000 fuel pumps with #72 injectors controlled by mega squirt. I am looking for around 650hp to the wheels. behind it will be a t56 out of a 96 z28 with a spec stage3+ I would like to keep my ac in tact because the car is a black hard top 88 Iroc and she gets hot in the summer. Which do you guys think will be more efficient the twin turbos or the procharger? any help is much appreciated thanks John

Either one will get you the HP you desire. Turbos add more heat to the engine bay. I prefer turbos, but it requires more work. My turbo setups are 1/4 to 1/2 the cost of a supercharger. It all comes down to fab skills, tools, time, and money. Determine what is most important to you and go from there.

I am still undecided at this point. I have no problem building turbo headers. I am a half decient welder. I allready priced everything out, for all the collectors, flanges, stainless steel tubing, wastegates, piping, clamps, precision ballbearing turbos ect ect and time will be a little under $3000.00 The procharger kit can be had from superchargers for less for around $4000.00 minus the fmu and inline fuel pump.I can not make up my damn mind

For me, I have to look at which is more efficient... my skill or my wallet...
In my case, my wallet... I can't make turbo headers, and not many people I know can... & they're not easy to find for these cars...
The supercharger is more expensive, but less heat and ducting is a plus...
I'm saving my pennies for an ATI...

Why I like turbos:
Simplicity (exhaust drives it)
Easy to rebuild (a DIY can do it with a $50 kit)
Cheap to build (cut-off tool, die grinder, 110V welder, $150 weld-el header)
Used turbos are cheap (most of the time in good shape)
SILENT when not under boost (a major factor for me...I hate noise w/o HP)
easy to adjust boost (just turn a screw)
easy to tune the ECM/carb for boost PSI (play with the wastegate)
Why I don't like turbos:
longer fab time (time is money)
exhaust heat in engine compartment (requires more thinking for the layout)
Why I like superchargers:
just bolt it on
Why I don't like superchargers:
expensive to buy the kit
expensive to rebuild
lots of noise ALL THE TIME (that's why I don't want one)
crank pressure from the belt
cost to increase boost
expensive to run mid-high boost (cogs & belts)
too much time to increase boost (swapping parts)
If heat and AC is a large factor for you then you probably want a supercharger. The compressor on a turbo will run at the same temp. as a SC. Some people confuse exhaust heat with compressor heat.

Check out burns stainless.com they make all kinds of things for turbos

I checked them out before. It is hard to beat Mcmaster-carr for SS bends. They have a good wall thickness and the price is right.

What about a single turbo setup? will that have more lag then smaller twin turbos?

Thanks... what you cannot see are ATI's twin intercoolers, and yes, it's a completely built 305.
What power are you getting from that?
Don't know for sure but I can tell you I was making over 500 hp with my prior F1 ProCharger making 14-psig. My best E/T was a 12.004 @ 117.62 mph with the stock MAF and a Superfueler, a supplemental fuel supply. The time and speed would be even better except I ran out of gear on the top end over two seconds prior to trapping. I hit redline in Drive at this point and had to let off the throttle and dump it into OD to finish the run. So I definitely would have run in the 11's. That was with 3.73's. I built the same motor for the TT setup to make around 700 hp with up to 25 pounds of boost. I now have 3.23's and expect to see trap speeds in the 130 mph range and hopefully, E/T's in the 10's. Oh, did I mention it's emissions legal?
Shame that you lose the AC, otherwise I'd be thinkin about stealing your ideas
It is true that all aftermarket serpentine belt systems (required with this setup because of the wastegate locations) does not have a provision for an A.I.R. pump. Because I need the pump to pass yearly emissions, I custom fabbed the A/C compressor location for the pump. I lost the A/C because of this. BUT if you don't need the smog pump, the Frontrunner from Vintage Air (which is what I have) is designed for an A/C compressor.
Willie, where did you buy your throttle inlet tube from?
It's a custom made piece that cost me over $400. Money was not a factor when I built this motor / turbo system.

I actually have a set of procharger twin intercoolers from a 98-02 f-body procharger kit laying around I also Have all the piping, hoses and clamps from it.

After my D1SC followed by an F1, I went with the turbos and had to re-route all my ducting to the twin ICs. It was a pain to figure out but I did it. Whew......

Not knowing any better at the time, I called Procharger to buy a d1sc. They pionted me to a dealer online named Superchargersforless.com. Procharger wanted like 4200 bucks, got it for 3250 and change. I'll never understand why they would tell you that you can get it cheaper from a dealer, but I'm not complaining.

I called Superchargersforless.com. and they gave me a price quote of 4200 for the d1sc kit with the 3 core IC
