hey you guys does anyone have a large single turbo with 5" exh? if so can i see pics of how the turbo is mounted and how you ran your exhaust? thanks

 

If you're trying squeeze in between the frame rail, 4" is probably the biggest you could go without splitting the DP into two. 4" would be tight, and you'd probably need to fab heater box with a little more clearance down near the frame rail as well. I haven't seen anyone do a 5" DP on a third gen yet.

 

gezzzzz diesel dont even need 5 inch downpipes my friends powerstroke does great with a 3 inch downpipe LOL

 

my turbo is proably a little bigger than his diesel turbo? lol. it will not have a heater box. i might cut out the floor and build a tunnel on the outside of the frame. i had to make my own floor in the s10. i just wanted to see mostly pics of how they were mounted. i want to run a large radiator,, and a intercooler. im prety shure it will fit if mounted sideways infront of the motor arround where the cruise control was or battery.

 

What turbo are you planning to use? Cruise control on mine was on the driver's side, you'll probably have more room to work with by putting the turbo towards the passenger side. An S400 can be squeezed in over there. These are the only pictures I can give you in reference to a large DP and large turbo, (4" OD tubing here).

 

its a t88. innovative gtb. what hurbo hedders are available? for these cars. has to be 1 3/4

 

yea, getting it to the bottom there is cake, but what do you do from there? I'm probably going to compramize and use a 4" DP there, and then split it into dual 3" pipes under the car around were the converter was, but I haven't figured out how to make the turn around the frame rail there. My current thought involves plasma and then reenforcing what I cut out, but considering the construction of the car that seems like a really bad place to be cutting into the "frame" of the car.

 

I've considered using ovaled tube from the frame rail down to the bottom, but I'm still not sure how much more room that will give me to work with. That's definitely not a good area to be cutting into the frame rail, not something I would attempt anyway.

 

This is not my actual setup, but is the same way it is.

 

Wheels up, I don’t think that any of us are that worried about how to run it in the engine compartment, things can always be moved around there, but how to get it out of there and under the car is the big issue.

 

I'd be curious to see how the downpipe in your setup or the one you posted is routed past the k-member, I wouldn't think that there would be much room for a DP that big down there.

Does anyone have pictures of the passenger side framerail area with the engine out from top and bottom?

 

the biggest problem is min needs to be streetable too. so i need a radiator.

 

Wow, what is the compressor A/R on that T6 frame? I have some .96 A/R T6 comp. housings that look tiny compared to that. That setup is a "race car" layout.

All of the street driven cars (thirdgen or otherwise) with decent ground clearance require a split to two 3" pipes. Even 4" pipe requires cutting a channel down the floor pan.

 

No it doesn't. i have a 4" catback and it fits fine. It is 2 3" pipes and then after the tranny x-member it is 4". Did you mean you need to cut stuff up if you are running 4" further up than me? That is true.

 

I have seen many different ways one of the best (with skinnys on the front) is cut out the flate metal behind the wheel well and drop the exhaust though there. I have seen only a 24" exhaust of the turbo. Very loud! with a turbo that big where are you mounting the intercooler and is it a water to air? If so you can mount one behind the dash. Custom intake reversed then cut a hole in the firewall and you are done. this way is so clean looking.

There should be more room on the passenger side so why not mount the turbo on the driver (due to steering) and keep both (custom) headers high and run the 5" dp under the passenger side header. I would seen if you can have the 5" ovaled or at that point I would just dump it.

 

i think im just going to mount it sideways on the pasenger side where the tray is. then run the 5" dp down with a 90 and 90 over to the driver side fender then just dump out there. ill fit in a muffler of some sort.

 

I would kill for a good picture of that area on one of these after it’s cut… that would be a much better area to make the bend to get the exaust under the car from, and keep it away from the control arm bushings. If I could slip a 4” through there and keep a big tire (running 265/40/17’s now) I would cut that area up in a second, but it would be a shame to do it on as nice a car as my current project car if I’m not going to end up with enough room anyway.

I don’t think that anyone is having problems finding room to run a large exhaust on the passenger side, the problem is how to run it and get it connected to a large exhaust under the car without restricting it somewhere.

Sorry no pics but I had a buddy do it on his 3rd gen to clear the regular exhast on a bigblock. And A buddy of mine is a fab guy that built Rob G. Twin turbo orange camaro. and he ran the tubo DP in front of the wheel well and trought the two a-arms. I know we can't do that (stock) but it can be done.
