My plans for the near future...
Hi,
I'm currently not sure what to do with my 87' 350 tpi (maf) engine.
Nitrous is illegal in germany, so this one would't be "my power-adder"...
So I have to decide between a turbo system (probably hp-performance kit for vette c4 ; ~4500$ ; if this kit fits is another question... ) and a Supercharger Kit.
If I would supercharge my L98 (completely stock ; no A/C ) what results in 0-60 / 1/4mile and rwhp/tq can i expect?
How much boost can I run safely on that engine with 100-110 octane fuel?
How much does a T/C or S/C system affects my fuel efficiency? (100+ octane is about 8$/gal. *omg* )
Which system would be best for me?
Vortech / Paxton / Procharger / something else??
thanks in advance
and please forgive me for asking questions that everyone asks who is new to the topic of forced induction
greets from autobahn-land

Re: My plans for the near future...
hmm let's say nitrous is not street legal
even when it's mixed with additives that you don't want to inhale

regarding to the mileage, sooner or later i'll do a propane conversion ; about 70% cheaper than pump-gas... that would be the next step after getting power

Nitrous isn't street legal anywhere, but neither is speeding but...
It's only technically legal at the track. But really, if you're using nitrous on the street they'd probably pull you over for speeding or something, then notice the nitrous bottle afterwards and ticket you for both
Turbo's would get better mileage in the end. Look at a booster propane setup. Use dual mixers, or propane injectors. Use dual vaporizers. Then just boost reference the pressure regulator(s).

Re: My plans for the near future...
@sonix: i'm looking for a propane injection system, no vaporizers or so.
the " Icom JTG " will be my choice, doesn't even use an own fuel management unit ; simply takes the data for usual fuel management and that's it...
the easier thing is the supercharger, right?
i'm afraid of pulling out my engine.... ^^

Re: My plans for the near future...
I'll be damned, I couldn't find much info on propane injection, but assumed it still needed a vaporizer. One company here in canada was trying to sell me on a system which injected the propane at 22psi or so, but could be boost referenced. I'll be looking into ICOM
Yes, superchargers are much more bolt on that a turbo.

http://www.icomitalia.it/imp_jtg_eng.html
there you can see that no vaporizer is needed...
so if a s/c is much more bolt-on , then that's exactly what i want

Re: My plans for the near future...
You could bolt on a procharger self contained unit in one day with a friend. I have one on my 92 camaro and am quite pleased with the results. There will be a big difference between the boost you can run on 100 and 110 octane. Is it leaded or unleaded?
with 100 oct I'd bet you could run around 12-15lbs without having to worry about detonation assuming you utilize some method of intercooling (FMIC, meth injection, etc)
with 110 octane you should be able to run 20+ lbs of boost with a good tune and intercooling, but you'll be on borrowed time with the cast pistons and crank. keep the rpms down (5500 and less) and it should live.
Check out www.turbomustangs.com for tons of good turbo/supercharging info and good luck!!!

They use RON rating in Germany so their 100 octane would be like 94 here in the states.

FMIC+ Front Mount InterCooler
I forgot you use research octane ratings there so my safe boost estimated will have to be revised.
100RON OCT should be safe to 10lbs boost with your 9.3:1 compression
110RON OCT should be safe to 15-20lbs but again your tune will have to be spot on to avoid any detonation that will quickly destroy your motor.
I've been very happy with my procharger, its a simple unit that bolts on without any hassles, and when the boost comes on it does so in a linear manner so it doesn't automatically blow the tires off like a turbo can. This is not to say that it doesn't fry the tires when you go wide open, but its a bit more controllable. Plus you get the pleasant (to my ears) pitch of a pissed off blower wherever you go.
If you go the procharger route Bob at Exotic Performance Plus will give you a great deal and A1 customer service/technical assistance. Make certain to purchase the widest belt possible for your application (they come in 6,8,and 12 rib) to avoid belt slip. If you've got any further question fell free to post em up.
