Carbed Supercharger Question

I'm installing a Powerdyde unit on my 383..I have an ignition question..Keeping the HEI distrib what could I or should I used for a boost timer ??? I'm a little confused on reading MSD's website it seems they want you to use external coil type setup and such...What would work with a HEI so I could adjust the timing in the cockpit like the MSD 5462 ????

Re: Carbed Supercharger Question

If you're talking about a late-model computer controlled small cap HEI system the 5462 will patch into the factory system. See figure 7 of the instruction:

http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/frm23950.pdf

Note that the 5462 is NOT a CD (capacitive discharge) ignition system- it's still inductive, although it is all in one box.

If you're using an earlier large cap non-computer controlled HEI then you are probably better off getting a complete ignition with the boost retard function already built in like the 6462. This system will also work with the computer controlled small cap HEI system. And this one IS a CD system, it's jsut got the boost-retard function built in:

Re: Carbed Supercharger Question

O.K. If I get a 6420 with the HEI harness..No Computer control..Is'nt it still a rev limiter ??? would I have to get an other boost box ??? I did'nt see where is has a vaccum plug to controll the boost....I know I'm missing somethig here

Re: Carbed Supercharger Question

How did the 6420 get in this conversation? It doesn't do boost retard, only rev limiting.

The 6462 I posted about does both boost retard functions and has a rev limiter.
