Re: Crower Rods

Any rods for $70 are a good deal.
Rods are always forged.
I beams go for $200 or so, crower probably more.
H beams are even more money, so whatever you got, you won on that deal. Unless they're cracked

Not true I know a motor that has aluminum rods. Don't last more than 2-3 track days. And end up paper weights when they stretch. Also can realy damage heads. But help a little old SBC make 870hp N/A.

Re: Crower Rods

Ok, I was talking about normal rods. The exceptions to my rules are aluminum and titanium

What rods are you using??? We used to run 1 pass top fule rods in our TA/FC....wouuld run them 50 1/8 mile passes then remeasure usually got 150 passes out of a set. Our 14-71 blown alcohol sbc 400(1400 dyno hp by the way) would run an entire season on a set of CROWER aluminums and then only got changed for good measure.

Re: Crower Rods

It might be a good deal if your putting them in an engine that doesnt make a whole lot of power. Id have to wonder why you got them so cheap, unless it was out of a race car that just changes the rods every so often for insurance. If they're going in a powerful motor, Id like to have the peace of mind and get them checked out by a machinist. Said and done after that cost you could almost get some decent I-beams, which is all most people need anyway. Not H.

Not crower rods. And we where in a class(don't want to give any or than that). It was cheap insurance and see only had one motor and the rules are very firm on motor specs. This is a motor has no blower or turbo or nitrous. But is HIGH compression. We learned many things in the last 2years. Like we lowered the octane and picked up power. Also run the same oil in the car all year. And added a vacuum pump. Please understand 900hp N/A with a SBC and a single (750) carb is not that easy. And yes we have run the rods a full season before. Car ran a 9.28@143 at a race weight or 3200lb. The car has been sold and the motor sets in the garage. Don't know what I want to do with it.

It no longer has aluminum or steel rods, however is still 300hp to much for my 3rd gen.

Re: Crower Rods

Wow that takes some skill. Thumbs up to you. If you need any help finding a home for that engine, Im highly qualified to take it off your hands.

You can keep the cam if you want.
