KITT mockup engine

Just thought I'd share my happiness.... got my turbo accessories back from powdercoating... thought it turned out good... It's going in a Knight Rider or KITT ...(got to have a turbo) Yes , this is the same engine that is in the last page on the power adder pics ... A little cleaner since that mockup and a whole different block... That 305 was Blown , but I used it for mockup in engine bay... The k-member was a problem until I cut the manifold and took about an inch or more off and welded back on... gave me some room to work and everything now does , so yey ,I'm happy... here's a pic though , just think Knight Rider... it's got to look different and has to have a turbo (yey , I know it's an old one) ... but I'm from the eighties also.. so anyway.. just think this is a killer looking setup... thanks for lookin

Re: KITT mockup engine

Yey, it fits, but barely.... it's about 3/8 to a half inch away from tower brace, I had to do some mallet treatment for the tower braces , but even without that ,it still fit... the only problem I've had is the freakin k-member Thought about going with tube k-member... but as of right now , I'm keeping the old one.. after I cut the exhaust manifold about and inch or so, it fit great anyway... yey , the Martin kits do fit but are tight, the engine has enough room to torque , but barely, this is mainly for show but I still want to be functional... I doubt the truck martin kit would fit, it's exhaust manifold goes straight into the k-member, mine is the vette, camaro style, it's angled..got the kit for with rebuilt turbo (basically, two whole systems) for 1000.00 not bad for almost two whole kits... rajay turbo parts are getting scarce though.. that's why I got extra parts for it... anyway I'm a frequent ebayer for rajay parts... anyway... thanks for looking...

Re: KITT mockup engine

A blow under the carb style system it looks like....?

Is this suposto be what "Kitt" Had on his car... that's the only reason why I can think anyone would put that style turbo/carb system on anything. I'd understand if that is the case.

I think making a KITT Clone is cool though. But I'm a weird 80's retro kinda guy.

Re: KITT mockup engine

KITT had a turbine, not a turbo. Just thought I'd clarify for those who asked. Good luck on the project though! I'm building my own Kitt with some technology from KR08 and the original Knight Rider

Re: KITT mockup engine

yey, but I tried to fit a turbine into it... nah just joking... I'm just trying to make what I can for this car... My budget is only so much, counting the dash is over 6000.00 and I didn't even pay that much for the car...I'm just thinking about turbo boost from knight rider...that's all... 6lbs to 15.. I could put a 100 shot of NOS on it and wire it to the turbo boost button, that would be fun.. but I'm just having fun with it ...

Re: KITT mockup engine

There is at least one episode where KITT had a turbo, as evidence of the "turbo boost on" light on the console.

Besides a turbine without being attached to anything is just wasted energy. A turbine is always used to drive something else, compressor, generator, pump, etc.

Re: KITT mockup engine

Iv enever seen this kind of a setup before... How well does it work?

I would imagine it would try to push stuff BACK UP through the carb.

Re: KITT mockup engine

What it does is very old school... think 80's ... turbo 301... first Buicks... anyway... The Martin kit is a 2-piece intake... the top has a flap on the bottom so when under boost ,it closes, the air and fuel go thru the turbo , then under the top intake, into cumbustion chambers... that's it... only thing bad is , that it is hot air going in... you definately have to have a water injection system to cool charge... that's it... anymore questions, feel free to ask...

thanks

Re: KITT mockup engine

this is deffinately an interesing piece. So its a drawthrough set up? If so, how does the fuel enter the turbo? Why is there still an openeing on the top of the intake for a carb? Do you have any more pics of the engine?
