Which Supercharger for a 305 ?

Im interested in installing a supercharger in my 1987 Camaro IROC-Z 305 (stock) TPI and I need some Help deciding which one is compatable with my engine. Also what other mods are basically required when doing a supercharged 305 ? Do I need an intercooler and bigger injectors ? Not looking for huge horsepower but 50 HP would be nice. Any Ideas?

if your only looking for about 50 hp it would be alot easier to do some simpler mods like new heads, mabye some headers and so on, you can easily get 50 hp without the hassle of a super charger

for 50 hp, I would swap in an L98 motor with possibly a cam and some tpi mods. They are fairly cheap around here to locate. A supercharger would be rather pointless for the cost compared to the benefits with a 350 being supercharged.

I kinda agree with the others. those options would be cheaper, but a suercharger would be easier to install. try getting a full exhaust first, did wonders to my 305.

Re: Which Supercharger for a 305 ?

I am looking at a new Procharger system for my 305 GTA with a Stage II 15-20psi 3 core intercooler. The only reason I am looking at it is because I don't want to heavy mod the car and I want a system that is complete, looks good, and compliments the car. I want the car to stay as stock looking as possible and they have an application setup for the the 305 engine. It's not cheap, but I wasn't expecting to nickle and dime my way to high performance. Additional injectors will also have to be a part of the system, so I am looking at roughly $5,500 once it is all said and done. This setup will give you way more than 50hp, but you could at least check them out and get a bit more educated as to the options available out there.

Re: Which Supercharger for a 305 ?

You can't put 15-20 psi on the stock motor...
I have a 91 TPI 5.0 and just got a Procharger kit.
I got the D1sc (better than the P1sc)...
Since this kit was designed for 5.7's, there are a few things to consider if you want to run your stock motor now, upgrade later (which is my route)...
My D1sc has a 4.75 inch pulley, the biggest one they make... this is supposed to run 8-9lbs on a 350, so it should run a tad more boost on a 305... the 305's run 19lb injectors and the 350's run 22... even with the FMU most people switch injectors, I've been told that the 5.7 switch to 24lb ford injectors cuz the GM ones lock up under pressure (if you use the FMU)... meaning the 19's will also lock up... I'm going to replace my injectors to the correct ones and use code59 to run it (ditch the FMU)... So I'll have fun with it for now, and when I upgrade to a better motor (350 or 383) I can up the boost too..

Re: Which Supercharger for a 305 ?

Thanks for the Info and ideas so far. I agree it would be a lot better to swap out my 305 for a 350. More easily accessed power for sure. I just don't have the money for a decent 350 or a supercharger right now. I don't want to buy 350 that needs a lot of work either because i don't have the skills to do a lot of the work myself. Id be willing to try but i can't even find a space to do it in. My IROC does have after market exhast which sounds great and gives a minor hp boost. What other little things are there (specifically under $1000) I can do to coax a little more power out of the 305? Ive heard stories of chipped cars of around the same year as mine (87) getting poor gas mileage turning there exhast tips black and all for negligeable performance gains? Is their any truth to that? Also would there be an advantage to put in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so i could run a higher pressure? anyway i know im grasping a straws, its tough to make hp improvments without putting some decent cash in to it but any tips tricks or ideas would be helpful. thanks
