looking for a turbo for 383 set up. t70 w/.96 or around that size.

Well trying to get all the stuff together to build a single turbo set up for my 92 formula. Have a chance to get a master power t-70 but it only has a .68 ar exhaust which I have been told is a little too small for a 383. I am looking to make upwards of 550 rwhp with the car and have the engine and heads to do so . So I dont want to choke it off with too small of a turbo. If anyone is upgrading and looking to sell of a smaller one let me know. I have thought of a 76mm but think it will be too big for what I want to do. I want it to spool fast and dont look to make over 650rwhp with this car as I have a 94 lt1 392 stroker afr 227 heads that I am going to make my fast car.It has a full cage and nine inch rear. The 92 is my daily driver and dont need to go nuts with it just want it to be fun.I can get the t70 off my friend forf 400 but then have to spend 150 on the .96 housing which puts me at the price of near new. His only has about 5k on it so near new but still what is the point of doing it that way,I guess. Or if another is in that price range that anyone knows about.

Wow, I'm putting a t70 on my 305. I think even a .96 MPT70 is WAY too small for a good flowing 383.

If your power goals are around 500 to 600 get a T76. I think the S400's is too big for what you want. But if your planing big power in the future. The S400 is the only way to go when cost is involved.

Re: looking for a turbo for 383 set up. t70 w/.96 or around that size.

no big power in the future for this car. I want to leave it mostly stock and my daily driver. I have my 94 camaro with the cage and 9 inch for a bigger set up. The master power t70 was on my friends 302 and made 550rwhp with afr 165 heads and a very small cam(220 224 .550 lift.) So I would think it would make more on a 383. Or does it become a restriction? I am trying to do this with keeping my a/c and dont want a big housing heat soaking the engine bay if I dont have to plus I dont want the car lazy and want it to spool up quick. I dont know much about turbos and why I am asking. My buddy who had the 302 broke the block and did a dart block afr 185s same cam and a t76 turbo in place of the t70 and now at 15 lbs it make 750rwhp with 356 cu. Large bore dart block and small crank. Dont know why he did it I would have went 400+ inches with that block but anyway. the 302 made its 550 on 12. now on 12 the big motor makes 625. Never tried 15 on the 302 because he didnt want to break the stock block which happened on the 10lbs he ran driving it daily. Ugh...what to do. I do know that the s400 is big and has a t-6 flange and sont need all that for this car. Maybe on the other one. I do have the new afr eliminator heads and a comp 224 232 .550 cam and hsr so it will move alot more air than a 302. so maybe a t76 to move the same air as a small motor?

Re: looking for a turbo for 383 set up. t70 w/.96 or around that size.

well I have spoke to a few people who build turbo cars and kits for specific applications and wanted hp and have been told a master power with the .68 ar on my specific 383 combo will be able to achieve 650rwhp and make boost almost instant with no lag due to the small housing. So what gives? why does eveyone scream go larger when it comes to turbos? I want the car to be fun and punchy not a slug until 4000 rpms If I can get around 500 on low boost(10 to 12) then 600 on a high setting(15 to 18) that would be great and so far people like vr racing think the master power t-70 with a .68ar will do it. Not looking for 800rwhp here.I have a second car for that. This is to be a fun daily driver.

well no one wants to make any money? Evey one pushes for the larger so I got a line on a turbonetics t-76 ceramic ball bearing turbo with.96 ar. all the oil plumbing, a 3 inch down pipe and 3.5 to 4 inch stepped down pipe for 900 bucks shipped. says it has less than 10 k on it and only used mobil one oil. Is that a good deal? I think it is 1800 for that one new.

Well, like I said, I'm using that turbo on my 305. And I'm thinking it may be small. Does that tell you anything? Ford 302 guys use the the bigger mpt70 on their motors for big horsepower quite often. With 81 more cubes I think you'd be better off with at least a little larger housing. Meh, do what you want though.

playing it safe and looking at a turbonetics t-76 with ceramic ball bearings, two down pipes a 3 inch and 3.5 to 4 inch and the oil plumbing to and from the turbo for 900 bucks and has around 10k on it all. I found that it retails for around 2k so sounds like a good deal.
