Supercharging at 10:1 Compression? Safe?
Supercharging at 10:1 Compression? Safe?
What's up guys? Quick question...I have a brand new 383 with 10:1 compression and was wondering if it is safe to install a Paxton SN92 supercharger. This setup is only good for 6-8 psi of boost so I think it may be low enough to safely run with such high compression but I figured I'd ask you guys. What do you think?
Thanks!

i think you could get away with 6 lbs but need to tune it and possibly run a better camshaft designed for boost even tho your not running alot of boost. Just need something to bleed off some cylinder pressure
But i'm also interested in what ppl think about 10 to 1 compression and some lbs boost

If you use the correct pulleys to make boost later in the rpm band (peak boost above peak torque rpm) it should help to avoid excessively high cylinder pressures and detonation. Its really all in the tune, though.
Can an SN92 handle the 383? It might be good for 6-8 psi on a stock motor, but a 383 will probably take it way out of its efficiency range... meaning HOT air and more detonation problems.

True. Honestly I never thought about that....
I don't really know of anyone in my arear that knows much about this. I wish I did this way they can help with a tune as well as some pulley recommendations. Right now the guy that built the motor says to stay away from the supercharger but a supercharger is just so tempting and it just so happens that I have one on hand.
