Blow through carb differences - just curious...
I'm like half a lifetime away from ACTUALLY installing a supercharger on my 86 bird, but I have a general question I thought some of you guys could answer (I did search, by the way).
I'm probably going to replace/ rebuild my e4me q-jet soon, and I was wondering what would be the best choice if I were going to supercharge and run a blow-through system in the future.
What mods are necessary to make a carb work in a blow-through app.? Also, is there a certain carb that will/won't work well? I was leaning toward the 1406 Edelbrock simply because it's so...well...simple.
Any input is appreciated!

i bought mine from csu and it was well worth it. 1000 bucks for 850 for e85 fuel. less for gas. and less if you only need a 750. i believe the 750 is good to 1100 hp.

this is a good question. I too was wanting to ask this, as I am wanting to modify a 4776 600 double pumper for this.
So the question is "how would one go about modifying a carb for blow-thu?"

my suggestion wouldb e to just buy one. if you can afford a turbo setup and a good lower end. i would not take the chance then their are others that konw exacly how to do it.
im not saying that you or i could not do it. but its a lot easier when someone that specializes in this field does it.
you wouldent let a plumber run all your electric in your house.
andi i know i cant afford to blow up a 10,000 engine becuase i forgot to do one thing on a carb that i converted.

you can buy a barry grant blow through mighty demon carb for about 500 bucks. Has been working well for me. Smooth and appears to be a good fuel curve so far.
I modified a holley two years ago, and it worked OK. Took a lot of tuning to get the low speed right, and the idle not pig rich. Had to drill holes in the butterflies. Peices of wire in the IFR's. PITA.
Its easier to start with a highly adjustable carb. Unless you drill and tap to make adjustments more feasable.

I agree with the prebuilt approach. I bought a Carb Shop 750CFM carb initially for my build, did my dyno runs with it, and it worked flawlessly. All I had to do was adjust the idle screws. Carb was great right out of the box and cost a little over $850. I now use the Hogan's/FAST EFI, but the CSU carb worked great given its cost and performance.
Seems like given the added insurance and adjustability the CSU carb gives, this would be a no brainer for those wanting a low cost approach to fuel control in a boosted application.

i put together my own blow thru carb with my proform 750, took a few hours, nothing major to do it either.
